5th Grade Secondary

Purpose: To describe rules and customs concerning some activities which


alludes to what one should or shouldn’t do or say.
Be allowed to – Let - Make
1. Be allowed to = To give permission to someone to do something.
A: Hello, is that Kevin at home?
B: No, he isn’t. He’s gone to the hospital.
A: Oh, such a big deal. I need to talk to him. Can you give me his phone number?
B: No, I’m afraid I’m not allowed to give his personal number. But you can call
him later.

2. Let = To allow or give permission to do something.


If dad lets us go to the concert, I will take Jane with us. She’s always wanted to see
Shakira.

3. Make = To force someone to do something.


My parents made me apologize for what I had said to the teacher in class.
