\
you want to learn.
\

2. Identify clicks and clunks (clicks = you

get it; clunks= you don't understand
this concept, idea or word

YELLOW ACTIVITY 4
GROUP PBL - Make methods and answers count
1. To develop problem-solving strategies, you will be provided with different hand
tools used by the farmers.
2. Demonstrate the correct method of accomplishing the task. You may use all the
tools provided but you need to select an alternative method if the first method
has proven unsuccessful.
3. Your task is to fill the black plastic bags with garden soil so that

4. Show finish product in front of the class
Guide Questions:
1. How does it feel when you do body stretching first before doing the
assigned task?
2. How would you use shovel in mixing soil media? Demonstrate.
3. What would be the result if you are using bare hands in soil preparation?
BLUE ACTIVITY 6
GROUP In my head Question-Answer Relationships (QARs)

Here you need to think about what you already know. You can even
answer the question without reading the module; you need to use your
own experiences.
Guide Questions:
1. Questions may come from graffiti board.
2. How did early farmers plant and harvest?
3. How do you compare soil preparations using the Modern Technologies
like machines to traditional / conventional ones?
4. How would you feel if you are a farmer and you don't have tools in
farming? What advice can you give to them?
FARM TOOLS IN HORTICULTURAL OPERATION
Farm tools, implements, and equipment play very important role in
horticultural operations. Their availability makes the work much
easier and faster. However, even if one may have the most
sophisticated tools and implements, but does not know how to use
them, they are useless. In order to do horticultural operations
successfully, one must have a good working knowledge of the tools,
implements and equipment before using them.
Hand Tools
Hand tools are usually light and are used without the help of animals
or machines. They are being used in performing farm activities which
involve small areas like school garden and home garden.
Spade is used for removing trash or soil,
digging canals or ditches, and mixing soil
media.

Shovel is used in removing trash, digging

loose soil, moving soil from one place to
another and for mixing soil media.

Rake is used for cleaning the

ground and leveling the topsoil.
Crowbar is used for digging big holes and
for digging out big stones and stumps.

Spading fork is used for loosening the

soil, digging out root crops and turning
over the materials in a compost heap.

Hand trowel is used for loosening the soil

around the growing plants and putting small
amount of manure fertilizer in the soil.

REFLECT:
We use tools in our everyday life at home and every
occupation uses tools as well. We use a comb for our
hair and a toothbrush for our teeth. A carpenter uses a
hammer; an artist uses a pencil. Farmers use tools like
rake, shovel in agricultural farm tasks. Providing an
understanding of how to use the proper tool for a job is
important in understanding and establishing skills for
ADL (activities of daily life) is paramount for these
students to learn and reinforce.
