INDUSTRY
The Government Sector
The Government Sector of the tourism industry is
responsible for the formulation of tourism policies.
It provides guidelines for the development of
destinations, and regulates the industry, in
collaboration
with the other government agencies. The sector is
subdivided into the national government entities,
and the local government units.
The Four Main Government Agencies
that are directly involve in tourism:
 Department of Tourism (DOT)

 Philippine Convention and Visitors


Corporation (PCVC)

 Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA)

 Local Government Units (LGU’s)


The Department of Tourism
The executive department of the Philippine
Government is responsible for the regulation of the
Philippine tourism industry and the promotion of the
Philippines as a tourist destination.
It’s primary obligations are:
 To assist in coordinating the plans and actions of
various government instrumentalities in tourism
matters;

 To discharge the government’s responsibilities arising


from treaties, agreements and other commitments on
tourism and travel;

 To provide such other public sector services to the


tourism industry as well as the formulation of
standards and the compilation of statistics in tourism
matters.
The Philippine
Convention
the and Visitors
The Philippine Convention and visitors Corporation is
marketing arm of the Department of Tourism.
Its main task is to promote the Philippines as a

tourist and a convention and incentive travel
destination. The PCVC in collaboration with the
DOT also coordinates with the provides assistance
to tourism associations, Local Government Units
(LGUs), local tourism councils (TC) and non-
government organizations (NGO) with respect to
tourism marketing and promotions.
The Philippine Tourism Authority’
The Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) was created
on May 11, 1973 pursuant to Presidential Decree
No. 189 as amended by Presidential Decree No.
564. As the implementing arm of the Department
of Tourism, it implements policies and programs of
the department pertaining to the development,
promotion, and supervision of tourism projects in
the Philippines.
Vision
The PTA is envisioned to be a self
sustaining government corporation,
contributing to the national development
objectives, serves as the epitome of public
service as if pioneers sustainable,
environmentally responsible, socially
responsive and culturally catalytic tourism
development.
Mission
The PTA is committed to effectively and
efficiently implement sustainable tourism
development undertaking as guided by the
following national development thrusts:
cultural awakening, countryside
development, environmental conservation,
foreign exchange generation, employment
creation, and poverty alleviation.
Functions
The functions of the PTA are:

1. To develop indentified priority areas

2. To operate, maintain, and promote facilities in


pioneering capacity

3. To provide technical and financial assistance to qualified


tourism projects

4. To generate revenues to fund national and corporate


development undertakings;
Local Government Units
The Local Government Units are
institutional units whose fiscal, legislative
and executive authority extends over the
smallest geographical areas distinguished
for administrative and political purposes.

economy that is run by individuals and
companies for profit and is not state
controlled.
