CHUCK

NORRIS
Youth

• Carlos Ray Norris was born on March 10, 1940 in the town of Ryan (Oklahoma). Norris's father is an auto mechanic, he
arranged binge drinking that lasted for months. Chuck's grandfather was a full-blooded Irishman, and his mother came from an
Indian tribe. Norris described his childhood as bleak. He was unsociable, shy and mediocre in his studies. The most memorable
impressions of the boy's childhood were the need, the lack of a permanent place of residence, a semi-impoverished life in a
trailer with his mother and two younger brothers, and then the divorce of his parents and the new head of the family. Norris
recalls that it was his stepfather George Knight who instilled in him a love of sports.Growing up, Chuck worked as a loader in
his spare time. I dreamed of becoming a policeman. To fulfill his dream, he enlisted in the Air Force immediately after
graduation and was sent to South Korea. It was at the military base that he began to be called Chuck. By that time, he was
already married to his classmate Diana Holechek. The service, according to him, was incredibly boring, so he took up sports,
signing up for a judo club. Three years later, by the time he left the army, he was already a black belt holder. In 1963, Chuck
Norris opened the first karate school, a year later — the second. In 1968, he opened a network of karate schools. In the same
year, he became the light heavyweight karate world champion and retained this title for seven years.
CAREER

• Chuck began his career in the world

of cinema with the help of the
famous future actor Steve McQueen,
to whom Norris once gave karate
lessons at his own school. McQueen
brought him to the set. The first
relatively serious role of Norris was
played by him in the film with Bruce
Lee - "The Way of the Dragon".

Norris liked acting in the movie. But after a spectacular debut, he received only one offer to shoot in a movie — to
play in a second-rate Hong Kong action movie "The Massacre in San Francisco." Norris again got the role of a bad
man, and the film itself was unsuccessful.

After talking with professional actors, Chuck realized how difficult acting is; he saw that acting is not just showing
techniques, that everything is much more complicated. Now he decided to study "acting" with real professionals.
Estelle Harmon became his teacher in the acting class. The 34-year-old karateka was her oldest student. The period
of study taught him a lot: he became much more relaxed in front of the camera, learned proper diction. In 1977, he
returned to the cinema, played a role in the action movie "Challenge!" and soon became a star of Cannon Pictures
films. Later, this company went bankrupt, but Chuck continued to act.
• In 1997 (In nineteen ninety-seven), he visited Russia as an honorary guest of the
prestigious national Thai boxing and kickboxing tournament with the participation of the
strongest athletes, including two fights for the title of European and world champions
among professionals. Chuck Norris became the creator of a large number of television
shows, in addition, he publishes his own magazine, has written 7 books. Recently he
decided to search for and "promote" young talents from Russia, not only potential
supermodels, but also film actresses, pop singers, and show program hosts. The winners
in competitions and auditions will be rewarded with a trip to Hollywood and participation
in Chuck Norris films.
CHARITY

• The actor cooperates with the Make a Wish charity foundation. This foundation is
engaged in helping seriously ill children, simultaneously fulfilling their wishes. Children
are often invited to the filming of the TV series "Walker, Texas Ranger". In addition,
Chuck Norris, together with several politicians and businessmen, founded the program
"Kick drugs out of America!", the purpose of which is not only the fight against drugs,
but also the promotion of sports, in particular, karate. Over the two decades of the
program, it has covered tens of thousands of children. Now the program is called
KICKSTART.
INTERESTING FACT

• Chuck Norris once appeared in court as an expert. A well-known lawyer, David Glickman,
involved him in a trial in which his client was accused of premeditated murder. Finding his
wife at home in an unambiguous company with her lover, the accused shot him with a pistol.
The defense was based on the fact that the victim was the owner of a black belt in karate, and
this can be equated to the possession of a deadly weapon. The prosecutor who supported the
prosecution asked Norris if the karate kid had a chance against the gun. He replied - there is,
if the distance between the opponents is less than three meters, and the pistol is not cocked.
An experiment was conducted right in the courtroom, and three times Norris managed to
strike before the prosecutor had time to cock the trigger and point the gun at him.
