Elasticity
What is Elasticity?
Elasticity is the ability of a body to resist
a distorting influence and to return to its
original size and shape when that influence
or force is removed.
And it is a measure of a variable's
sensitivity to a change in another variable,
most commonly this sensitivity is the
change in price relative to changes in other
factors.
Different Types of elasticity
Spring Constant Force Extension Graphs
 Compress Deformed: The change in size and
shape
Stretch Inelastic: When the object doesn't
Bend return back to it’s original shape, an
inelastic collision can be defined as
a type of collision where this is a
loss of kinetic energy.
Elastic: When the object returns to
it's original state is called elastic.
Extension
• Extension is the increase in length of a spring when it is stretched.
• the extension is directly proportional to the force applied.
• The relation between force and extension is linear.
Examples of extensions
Hooke’s Law
Force increases so extension increases
they are directly proportional this is
called Hooke’s law.
Hooke’s law, law of elasticity
 discovered by the English scientist
Robert Hooke in 1660, which states
that, for relatively small deformations
of an object, the displacement or size
of the deformation is directly
proportional to the deforming force or
load. Under these conditions the
object returns to its original shape and
size upon removal of the load.
