The Pursuit Of Happiness
Synopsis
The movie is based on the true story of a man named Christopher Gardner.
The story began in 1981 when Chris Gardner lived with his wife is Linda,
and Christopher is his only son. They spent their entire life savings on
portable bone scanners for a living. He sold the revolutionary machine to
doctors at hospitals, while his wife worked as a part-time worker. Gardner
has invested heavily in a device known as a "Bone Density Scanner" he felt
successful in selling the device. But they don't sell as well they do slightly
better than X-rays at a much higher price. His wife left him and he lost his
apartment while Gardner worked to achieve his goals. Forced to live on the
streets with his son, accept unpaid internships as a stockbroker, and
continue to sell bone scanners, making it impossible for him to advance to
paid positions. Before he gets a salary, he has to outperform the competition
in 6 months of training and sell his equipment to stay afloat.
THE FIVE ACT PLAY

Act 1: The Exposition


Setting :
1. San Francisco, California in 1981

2. Modern life and the mood of the bustling city of San Francisco which was
struggling to deal with economic problems, according to the news in movies
"President Ronald Reagan said this country had a large financial deficit".

Characters: Chris Gardner, Linda is his wife, and Christopher is his only son.
Conflict: Chris has no permanent work and weak financial condition while to fulfill the
living costs needed more.
Act 2: Rising Action
 Chris met a broker in his fancy red Ferrari in front of his office building while Chris was selling
bone scanners.
 Impressed by the man and the people around him, he wanted to try being a stockbroker as well.
However, his wife did not support him because she thought it was impossible, Chris never went
to college.
 Chris was too ambitious to be a stockbroker also, so he forgot to pick up his son at school as a
result his wife got angry
 Linda decided to go and live with his sister in New York.

 Christopher stay with Chris and Chris remains determined to become a stockbroker by applying
for a six-month training program without pay. From the friendliest stockbroker he has ever met,
he learns that he doesn't have to graduate from college to be successful. He just needs to do good
with numbers and people.
Act 3: The climax
He received a bank tax bill. If he doesn't pay, the bank will block his account

subway station.

each afternoon in order to get in line on time.

back.
