TYPES OF
SPEECH CONTEXT
There are four general types of speech contexts -
intrapersonal, interpersonal, public, and mass
communication context.
Self-talk:
- Improves the quality of our lives
- Influences our communication with others
- Affects our performance
- Makes a deep impact on our personality
Examples:
 You felt happy while thinking about how your
teacher appreciated you for submitting your
project before the due date and you reflected
on why this was so.

2. Interpersonal
 Interpersonal communication is defined as the
process by which one person stimulates meaning
in mind of another person through verbal and
nonverbal messages.
 For interpersonal communication to take place,
we need to consider these two types; dyad and
small group.
Dyad Small Group
 means two  three-twenty people
 more intimate  It is usually shared and purposeful
communication wherein people

 gives immediate response information to understand a subject.

3. Public Communication
 It is a speaker-audience communication that

4. Mass Communication

 refers to the communication that takes place


through television, radio, newspapers, magazines,
books, billboards, Internet and other types of
media.

Example:
 You are a student journalist articulating your stand
on current issues through the school’s newspaper.

2. Delivering a speech in the school campus
3. Asking your father for allowance
4. Watching a popular Filipino “telenovela”
5. Being a part of a committee choosing the theme of your school fair
6. Explaining the scientific terms in science experiment partner
7. Discussing with your group mates about the topic to be reported
8. Announcing at a radio station about the school’s scholarship program
9. Giving an advice to your friend
10. Congratulating oneself for a job well done
