Transmit power and motion
Protect against wear
Prevent corrosion

TYPES OF LUBRICANTS
Gaseous lubricant - Have much lower viscosity and higher
compressibility compared to liquids.

Liquid lubricant - Lanolin, mineral oils, vegetable oils etc are

common types.

Solid lubricant - Graphite powder, molybdenum disulphide, Teflon

tape, Teflon etc.

Semi-solid lubricant - Greases are semi-solid lubricants.

Some of the brands of lubricants available in the market

Advantages of lubricants
• It prevents the machine
parts from damage and
abrasion.

• It helps in transmission of
heat and power.

• It prevents wear and tear of

the machine parts.

Disadvantages of lubricants
• Liquid lubricants make the
working area dirty.

• It wastes a lot of power and

energy.

• Sometimes use of old and

used oils can be dangerous.

•It charges extra cost.
