ULNAR NERVE BRANCHES AND ITS SENSORY AND MOTOR

FUNCTION
WHAT IS THE ULNAR NERVE

• The ulnar nerve is a major peripheral nerve

of the upper limb derived from the brachial
plexus. It is a continuation of the medial
cord and contains fibers from the spinal
roots C8 and T1
WHAT IS THE ULNAR NERVE
MOTOR FUNCTIONS IN THE
FOREARM

Flexor digitorum profundus (medial half)

flexes the ring and little fingers at the distal interphalangeal flexes and adducts the hand at the wrist
joint
MOTOR FUNCTIONS IN THE HAND

Hypothenar muscles
Medial two
lumbricals
MOTOR FUNCTIONS IN THE HAND
MOTOR FUNCTIONS IN THE HAND

Palmar and dorsal interossei of the hand

SENSORY FUNCTIONS

Palmar cutaneous branch – innervates the medial half of the palm.

Dorsal cutaneous branch – innervates the dorsal surface of the medial one and
a half fingers, and the associated dorsal hand area.
Superficial branch – innervates the palmar
surface of the medial one and a half fingers.
