A. Teaching Profession and Philosophy
teaching profession
● Is a profession that lies at the heart of
both the learning of children and young
people to their social, cultural, and
economic development.
● Teaching is a process that facilitates learning . It
is the specialized application of knowledge, skills,
and attributes designed to provide unique service
to meet educational needs of the individual and
society.
● Philosophy means “ love of wisdom”. It is
made up of two Greek words, philo,
meaning love and sophos, meaning wisdom.
● Philosophy helps teachers to reflect on key
issues and concepts in education, usually
through such questions as:
- What is being educated?

- What is the good life?


- What is the nature of learning?

- What is teaching?
● Your educational philosophy is your beliefs
about why, what and how you teach, whom
you teach, and about the nature of learning.
● Sources for your educational philosophy is your life
experiences, your values, the environment on which
you live, interactions with others and awareness of
philosophical approaches.
The first thing you must know about teaching as a profession is that teaching is about inspiring and motivating students to realize and exceed their potentials. The greatest teachers of all time have devoted their life in inspiring and empowering their students to achieve great things and be a good human being.
Types of Teaching of Philosophy
● perrenialism- the goal of perrenialist educator is to teach students to think
rationally and develop minds that can think critically.

● Essentialism- essentialists believe that there is a common core of knowledge


that needs to be transmitted to students in a systematic, disciplined way.

● progressivism- progressivist believe that individuality, progress and change


are fundamental to one's education.
● reconstructivism- philosopy that emphasizes that
addressing of social questions and a quest to create a
better society and worldwide democracy.
