VISITOR’S ARRIVAL : DOT Eastern Visayas
Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes, that is very
realistic to attain 10 percent growth rate for foreign
tourists’ arrival and 20 percent for domestic tourists.

In 2017, Eastern Visayas welcomed 1.46 million visitors


or 19.38 percent higher than in 2016. The region earned
PHP14.73 billion that year from tourism spending.
This year, the region’s six provinces expect to
welcome 2.09 million foreign and local visitors.
The figure is expected to rise to 3.59 million by
2022.

DIALECT : Ninorte Samarnon, a variation of Waray-Waray.
About 4.5 percent of the population, especially in the island towns,
speak Cebuano, while a minority speaks Inabaknon, a unique
language said to be one of the most preserved languages to date.
This is the native tongue of the populace in the island town
of Capul.

Leyte is considered one of the biggest provinces in the


region. It also has the biggest population with 1.73
million in 2015 and is considered as the fastest-
growing province in the region – with an average
LEYTE annual population growth rate of 1.83% from 2010 to
2015.

Leyte is passed through by many low mountain


ranges similar to Samar and Visayan Islands. A
rugged and impassable ridge runs from the
northwestern section to the southeastern extremities.
Many extinct volcanoes are also found in this
province, the most important of which is Mahagnao.

SAN JUANICO BRIDGE
San Juanico Bridge is part of the Pan-Philippine Highway and stretches from Samar to Leyte
across the San Juanico Strait in the Philippines. Its longest length is a steel girder viaduct built on
reinforced concrete piers, and its main span is of an arch-shaped truss design.
LAKE DANAO
Lake Danao is a guitar-shaped lake on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. The lake is covering an
area of 148 hectares. It is situated in the 2,193 hectares Lake Danao Natural Park, which also includes the
Amandiwin mountain range.
MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park
The MacArthur Leyte Landing Memorial National Park is a protected area of the Philippines that
commemorates the historic landing of General Douglas MacArthur in Leyte Gulf at the start of the
campaign to recapture and liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation on 20 October 1944.
KALANGGAMAN ISLAND
Kalanggaman Island is a beautiful beach destination located in the municipality of Palompon in the
province of Leyte, Philippines.
The island of Kalanggaman is famous for its crystal clear water, white powdery sand and long sandbars
stretching on both sides of the island.
Canigao Island
Canigao is an islet located in the Philippines, near the municipality of Matalom, Leyte. The
area is known for abundant fishing grounds and scenic coral reef areas suitable for diving.
Agas-Agas Bridge
The Agas-Agas Bridge is a prestressed concrete beam bridge on the Pan-Philippine Highway. The
₱1.024-billion bridge was funded partially by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
 
Palo Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lord's Transfiguration, also known as Palo Metropolitan
Cathedral or simply Palo Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic church located at Palo, Leyte in the
Philippines belonging to the Vicariate of Palo under the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Palo.
LINTAON PEAK (16,000 BLOSSOMS)
The 16,000 Blossoms is a park perched on top of a hill called Lintaon Peak in Baybay, a city situated in the
central west coast of Leyte Island. It features over 16,000 artifical white and red roses, all imported from Malaysia
that glows at night through its LED bulbs
