Robotic Applications
 Robotics is the branch of engineering science and technology which involves the conception,
design, operation and manufacture of robots. Electronics, mechanics and software are brought
together by robotics.
 Robots are used for jobs that are dirty, dull and dangerous. Today robotics have many different
application areas. Some of those are:
 Outer Space Applications
 Military Applications
 Intelligent Home Applications
 Industry
 Health Service
 Security
 Agriculture
 Food Preparation

Space Exploration
There are many things in space that are very dangerous for astronauts to do.
Robots are a great choice because there are no chances for the loss of human life
then.
For example, Mars Rover.

Military
They can be used as drones to keep surveillance on the enemy, they can also be used
as armed systems to attack the opposing forces .
Predator drone, which are capable of taking surveillance photographs, and even
accurately launching missiles at ground targets, without a pilot.
Some of the popular robots used are MAARS (Modular Advanced Armed Robotic
System) which looks like a tank and contains tear gas and lasers to confuse enemies
and even grenade launcher for desperate situations.

Household Applications
 We can monitor home security, environmental conditions and energy usage with intelligent
robotic home systems. Door and windows can be opened automatically and appliances such
as lighting and air conditioning can be pre programmed to activate.

Health Service
Robots have changed healthcare a lot.
They can help doctors in performing
operations more precisely, be used as
prosthetic limbs, provide therapy to patients,
etc.

Industrial Applications
Robotic arms are able to perform multiple tasks such as
welding, cutting, lifting, sorting and bending are used in fabrics.
The most commonly used configurations of the industrial
robots are:
 Articulated Robots - uses rotary joints to access its work space. 
 Cylindrical Coordinate Robots - moves linearly only along the Y
and Z axes with a cylindrical work envelope.
 Cartesian Coordinate Robots - the arm axes can be described by
using the X, Y, and Z coordinate system.
 Delta Robots - consists of three arms connected to universal joints
at the base. The Delta robot has popular usage in picking and
packaging in factories.

Food Preparation
 There are robots that even can cook and create complete
meals.
 These robot chefs can create food using hundreds of different
recipes. All the humans need to do is choose the recipe they
want and provide the robot with pre-packaged containers of
all the ingredients that are needed for that recipe.

Agriculture
Agriculture is the sector that is the basis of human civilization. But now Robotics has entered
into the agricultural sector and made the man power easy and reduced the human labour.

Future Applications
Robotic automation is a rapidly evolving technology. In just a few decades, industrial
robots have become commonplace in factory settings across the world, and they
only continue to gain popularity for their productivity and profitability.
Robotics have created a revolution in manufacturing – it’s important to keep an eye
on what’s coming next because this technology is far from done disrupting the way
we manufacture and distribute products.
Robotics will continue to transform manufacturing in numerous
ways, but there are 6 trends in robotic automation that will play a key role
in the near future.

Future Trends in Robotic Applications
1. Adoption of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Technology
 Robots will increasingly deploy smart sensors at the edge of production to collect data
previously inaccessible to manufacturers. This trend is currently underway and will lead to
new levels of productivity and efficiency.
2. Industrial Cybersecurity as a Priority
 As robots become more connected to internal systems for data collection, the cybersecurity
risks increase. Manufacturers will be forced to address vulnerabilities in their processes and
invest heavily in cybersecurity to ensure safe, reliable production.
3. Big Data Analysis Becomes a Competitive Differentiator
 Robots will become a key source of information on the factory floor. The collection of data,
however, is just one piece of the puzzle. Manufacturers will have to implement systems to
organize and analyze all of this information in order to act on it.

4. Open Automation Architectures Will Be Implemented
 As robotic automation gains widespread adoption, the need for open automation architectures
grows. Large industry players will work with industry organizations to produce standards and
open documentation that make robotic integration easier while improving product compatibility.
5. Virtual Solutions Will Invade Physical Processes
 Virtual solutions will become an integral part of industrial robotics. One current growing
application is the virtual representation of robotic systems for proof of concept and offline
programming.
6. Collaborative Robots Will Continue to Grow in Popularity
 Collaborative robots can work safely alongside humans and are often far cheaper than their
industrial counterparts. As collaborative robots become more capable in tough industrial
settings, they will see greater profit.

Functions of a Robot
The Robots carry out three main functions. They are:
 Sense
 Think
 Act

They “sense” environmental stimuli and “think” in terms of preset algorithms


for planning and then, on the basis of these algorithms which define the
reactions, these robots “act’.

Sense
Detect the presence of parts using vision system
Detect the bone tissue, soft tissue with sonar sound
wave signals
Detect an obstacle or treat using ultrasonic waves
Detect the position of limbs or end effectors using
stepper motor feedback.

Think Act
Execute PC controller programme for Warn and act to it accordingly
this trigger input, with stored Supply energy to actuators and arms
programme Give feedback to the controller
Process inputs in a decision and
planning module
Obey instructions previously given
verbally by a human, interpreted and
stored in run time memory.
