Unknown Church, Located on Academy Street between
the two passages to the Friends Meeting House.
Warrington Academy Street Independent Methodist Church was built in
approximately 1867.  It closed around 1907 and today the building is now
used by a Spiritualist church. May have started off as Primitive Methodist
but later became IM. IM records show start date as 1867 PM shows 1860’s.

The congregation now
hold services in
Wycliffe URC building
Opened in 1826 at Old Road,
Latchford, by the
Primitive Methodists.
Rebuilt as the Zion Chapel at
Legh Street in 1870.
Closed in 1954.

as the Community of Christ they do not use the
name Mormon and are Trinitarian.

This is thought to be the first
place the Independent
Methodists met in Grappenhall in
a room above a bake house on
Knutsford Road. The bake house
stood behind what is today a
modern detached house which is
the third property from the
junction of Knutsford and
Chester Roads.

A book called The Northwood Story is available from the IM Resource Centre in Pemberton Wigan
The chapel was demolished 1977for the building of M6 junction 21.
A new church St Martin’s was built in Gig Lane Woolston
