Alice Henry
Alice Henry was interested
in politics from childhood.
She developed a passion for
justice, women’s rights,
democracy and equality, and
she decided to devote herself
to those causes.
Margaret Tucker
Taken from her mother at the
age of 12, Margaret Tucker
was part of the Stolen
Generation. She became
treasurer of the Victorian
Aborigines League in 1932,
one of the earliest
Indigenous activist groups.

Why women are rejected
People (men) thought that women were too emotional and not smart
enough to be interested or even understand politics. Women were
also made to do all the house work and were not even allowed to go
to school and have an education.

In 1894, Women won the right, after
three unsuccessful attempts, to vote
in SA, WA in 1899 and NSW in
1902.

Today, women and
females still
experience sexist
behaviour and some
people are still
stepping up for that,
however, the
suffragette movement
has long ended.
