SPORTS LEADERSHIP

LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS
• One can be great in leading group of individuals. The
method of persuading group members to work well for
the desired goal is LEADERSHIP. Leaders can either be
task-oriented or person-oriented. Those who focused on
educating behavior, workshop, performance, and best
results are task-oriented leaders. But leaders who are
more interested in the interpersonal relationships on the
team are person-oriented. Best sports leaders are both
people-and-task-oriented, but lean more towards being
task-oriented.
• As leaders there is a must to be flexible at all
times. Aside from being intrinsically motivated
successful leaders also promote that same
fervour in their associates. People need
encouragement to make the impossible
amazing. Leaders can bring magic and
miracles to the athlete for the pursuit of
excellence.
LEADERS MUST BE…?
• Leaders must be confident, assertive, and show
respect at all times. They must have learned to take
risks and be innovative in decision making.

• If athletes are not treated with genuine respect, they

will not respect the coach. Sincerity is important
because players can usually tell if positive talk is
phony, and in that cause they won’t take it to heart.
• Mastery in the art of communication is also
a strong weapon of great leaders. It is not
always the leaders are talking, they must
know how to listen to inputs of team
members with an open mind. The way one
communicates with and leads a team may
play a big part in their motivation to work
hard.
THE MAIN AIM OF LEADERS
• The main aim of leaders in a team is to push the
members to perform to the best of their ability.
They must have the collaborative effort of
setting obtainable yet demanding team aims.
Strong leadership persuade people to show their
full potential by opening opportunities rather
than forcing them to work hard.
