TEENAGE PREGNANCY

Teenage Pregnancy is pregnancy in a woman 19 years of age

or younger. A woman can get pregnant if she has vaginal sex
with a man at any age after she's begun having regular monthly
periods.
WHY TEENAGE PREGNANCY IS A PROBLEM?

Adolescent pregnancy remains a major contributor to maternal

and child mortality. Complications relating to pregnancy and
childbirth are the leading cause of death for girls aged 15-19
globally. Pregnant girls and adolescents also face other health
risks and complications due to their immature bodies.
WHY IS TEENAGE PREGNANCY A SOCIAL
PROBLEM?

Teenage Mothers have higher risks of living on lower

incomes, lower educational achievements and difficulties with
housing and family conflicts when compared to their peers.
Teenage mothers are also more likely to be socially isolated.
WHAT IS THE CURRENT SITUATION ABOUT
TEENAGE PREGNANCY IN THE PHILIPPINES?

The Philippines has recorded a total of 180,916 live births

among adolescents aged 10 to 19 in 2019, according to the data
from the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System of the
Philippine Statistics Authority. The figure is equivalent to 495
live births per day in the 10 to 19 age group.
HOW CAN WE PREVENT TEENAGE PREGNANCY
IN THE PHILIPPINES?

1. Educating the youth about sexual and reproductive health, even

in non-formal education settings, and normalizing respectful
dialogue on the topic.
2. Providing rights-based measures to help pregnant girls and
young mothers continue and finish their education.
3. Creating vocational training opportunities.
RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD

Having your first child and becoming a parent is a major event for most people, and it
affects lives and relationships. Couples have to cope with the demands of pregnancy,
childbirth and parenting, as well as dealing with their changing relationship.

Becoming parents may also mean there is less time for each other. While some people
are happy to make this change, some may feel left out or unloved. It’s important to
acknowledge and communicate feelings of grief and sadness about losing your exclusive
couple relationship. Make time to sit down and talk with your partner.
IMPORTANCE OF RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD IN NATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT

1. It helps in motivating children

2. It has a huge impact on the generation
3.  It makes the youth in our country responsible
4.  It helps the country in many ways
5. Always remember “The best Parent can bring out the best child”
REPUBLIC ACT 10354: THE RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD
AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH ACT OF 2012

The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of

2012, known as the RH Law, is a groundbreaking law that
guarantees universal and free access to nearly all modern
contraceptives for all citizens, including impoverished
communities, at government health centers
DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION/ RA9165

When Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte assumed office in 2016,

his government launched an unprecedented campaign against illegal drugs.
The drug problem in the Philippines has primarily been viewed as an issue
of law enforcement and criminality, and the government has focused on
implementing a policy of criminalization and punishment.
According to the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) (the government
agency mandated to formulate policies on illegal drugs in the Philippines),
there are 1.8 million current drug users in the Philippines, and 4.8 million
Filipinos report having used illegal drugs at least once in their lives More
than three-quarters of drug users are adults (91%), males (87%), and have
reached high school (80%). More than two-thirds (67%) are employed .
The most commonly used drug in the Philippines is a variant of
methamphetamine called shabu or “poor man’s cocaine.” According to a
2012 United Nations report, the Philippines had the highest rate of
methamphetamine abuse among countries in East Asia; about 2.2% of
Filipinos between the ages 16–64 years were methamphetamines users.
TIPS FOR PREVENTING SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Avoid Temptation and Peer Pressure.

Develop healthy friendships and relationships by avoiding friends or family
members who pressure you to use substances. It’s often said “we become most like
those we surround ourselves by,” meaning if you surround yourself with people
who abuse drugs and alcohol you are more likely to as well. Peer pressure is a
major part of life for teens and adults. If you are looking to stay drug free develop a
good way to just say no, prepare a good excuse or plan ahead of time to keep from
giving into peer pressure.
TIPS FOR PREVENTING SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Seek help for Mental illness.

Mental illness and substance abuse often go hand in hand. If you are
dealing with a mental illness such as anxiety, depression or post-traumatic
stress disorder you should seek professional help from a licensed therapist or
counselor. A professional will provide you with healthy coping skills to
alleviate your symptoms without turning to drugs and alcohol.
TIPS FOR PREVENTING SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Keep a well-balanced life.

People often turn to drugs and alcohol when something in their life is
missing or not working. Practicing stress management skills can help you
overcome these life stressors and will help you live a balanced and healthy
life. Develop goals and dreams for your future. These will help you focus
on what you want and help you realize that drugs and alcohol will simply get
in the way and hinder you from achieving your goals.
