STANDARDIZATION
INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR STANDARDIZATION

PRESENTED BY GROUP 5
WHAT IS ISO STANDARD?

• ISO standards are internationally agreed by experts. Think of

them as a formula that describes the best way of doing something.
It could be about making a product, managing a process,
delivering a service or supplying materials – standards cover a
huge range of activities.
THE MAIN ISO STANDARD
ISO 9000 FAMILY
QUALITY MANAGEMENT
•By far the most popular family is that of ISO 9000. A family of quality management standards,
there are fourteen in total. Of these, ISO 9001:2015 is the only one that can be certified to. It was
first published in 1987, and has since been updated about every 7 years. The standard details how to
put a Quality Management System (QMS) in place to better prepare your organization to produce
quality products and services. It is customer focused, and places an emphasis on continuous
improvement and top management processes that extended throughout the organization.
•The standard was updated in 2015, and now places a greater emphasis on risk management. The
standard is generic, and can be used in any organization in any sector. Over 1,000,000 ISO
certifications have been given out in over 170 countries according to the
ISO Survey of Management System Standard Certifications.
ISO/IEC 27001
INFORMATION SECURITY MANAGEMENT
• ISO/IEC 27001 is widely known, providing requirements for an information security management system (
ISMS), though there are more than a dozen standards in the ISO/IEC 27000 family. Using them
enables organizations of any kind to manage the security of assets such as financial information, intellectual
property, employee details or information entrusted by third parties.
• CERTIFICATION TO ISO/IEC 27001
• Like other ISO management system standards, certification to ISO/IEC 27001 is possible but not obligatory.
Some organizations choose to implement the standard in order to benefit from the best practice it contains
while others decide they also want to get certified to reassure customers and clients that its recommendations
have been followed. ISO does not perform certification.

ISO 45000 FAMILY
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
• For organizations that are serious about improving employee safety, reducing workplace
risks and creating better, safer working conditions, there’s ISO 45001.
• According to the International Labour Organization, more than 7 600 people die from work-
related accidents or diseases every single day. That’s why an ISO committee of occupational
health & safety experts set to work to develop an International Standard with the potential to
save almost three million lives each year. Structured in a similar way to other
ISO management systems, the approach will be familiar to users of standards such as
ISO 14001 or ISO 9001. ISO 45001 builds on the success of earlier international standards
in this area such as OHSAS 18001, the International Labour Organization’s
ILO-OSH Guidelines, various national standards and the ILO’s international labour
standards and conventions.
WHAT IS ISO ABBREVIATION FOR?

• The International Organization for Standardization

• ISO is defined as the acronym for the International Organization for
Standardization, headquartered in Switzerland. The ISO defines rules and
standards to aid in tasks for virtually all products that people use, including
rules and standards about how products are made and how quality control
