What is bioprocess ? And its uses
• A bioprocess is a specific process that uses complete
living cells or their components [e.g., bacteria,
enzymes, chloroplasts] to obtain desired products.
• Bioprocessing is used in the production of
pharmaceuticals, foods, flavors, fuels and chemicals
with aid of a biocatalyst such as an enzyme,
microorganisms, plant cell, or animal cell in a
bioreactor.
Bioreactor

A bioprocess takesplace in the bioreactor

which provides optimum environment for
the reaction to take place
What is Bioprocess hazards ?
• Bioprocess or biological hazards are organic substances or micro organisms
that pose threat to the health of humans and other living organism.
• This can include medical waste or samples of a microorganism, viruses, or
toxins [from a biological source] that can affect human health.
• Organic substance:- Sugars, Lipids, Aminoacids, Proteins.
• Microorganism:- Bacteria, Fungi, Algae, Protozoa, Viruses.
Bioprocess hazards classification
1. Contact with infected living animals.
2. Contact with contaminated animal products.
3. Tick, flea or mite bite.
4. Contact with human or animal waste.
5. Contact with infected patient or blood.
6. Raising dust containing pathogens.
