THERMAL QUANTITY….
Heat Flow
• Heat energy tends to distribute itself evenly until
the perfectly diffused uniform thermal field is
achieved.
• It tends to flow from high temperature to lower
temperature.
Heat Rate Flow
• Rate of heat flow is measured in watts.
• Power is the ability to do work in unit time. It is the
rate of energy expenditure.
THERMAL
QUANTITY….

Conductivity
• Heat flow in conduction takes place
through bodies in direct contact, the
molecular movement consisting the
flow of heat.
• The rate at which molecular movement
spreads varies with different materials
and is describes as a property of
materials called THERMAL
CONDUCTIVIT(K-Value)
• Thermal conductivity defined as the
rate of heat flow through unit area.
• The lower the conductivity , the
better is the material.
THERMAL QUANTITY…
REACTIVITY
1. It is the reciprocal of 1/k.
2. It is measured in m deg c/w.
3. Better insulators have higher resistivity values.
4. While conductivity and resistivity are the properties of
material , the corresponding properties of a body of a given
thickness are described as conductance (C) or reciprocal
resistance (R).
MULTILAYER BODY…
• The resistance of a multilayer body of different materials will be the sum of
resistance of an individual.
• The conductance can be found by finding its resistance and taking its reciprocal 1/C.

SURFACE CONDUCTANCE….

• Along with the body the surface of the offers the resistance as well , where a thin film of air
separate the body from the surrounding.
• Surface conductance is taken to be ‘f’ , so surface resistance is taken as ‘1/f.’
