Rizal studied and copied the de Morga’s book
verbatin ( Succesos de Las Islas Filipinas). He annotated extensive passages of the book to correct de Morga’s misconception about Philippines and Filipinos. Pacto de Sangre Pacto de Sangre was an ancient ritual in the Philippines intended to seal a friendship or treaty, or to validate an agreement. The contracting parties would cut their wrists and pour their blood into a cup filled with liquid such as wine and drink mixture. The Pacto de Sangre was depicted as giving Spanish colonialism a distinctive character, which the French would later call mission civilasatrice. It was Spain’s “honorable obligation” to assimilate Filipinos. In other words, to civilize and uplift the natives Spain had colonized. Spaniards as Conqueror
The Spaniards conquered the Philippines for
333 years. Because of being lost in unity. Spanish missionaries tried to eliminate the ancient written literature of the Filipinos. Their biggest achievement was the spread of Roman Catholicism. As a conclusion, • The revising of de Morga’s book makes people know the truth about the Philippine history. • Talking about Pacto de Sangre, there are contradicting ideas between the ritual itself and the way of Spaniard colonization. • The happenings during the Spaniard colonization has a big impact not just in Philippine history but also for people in modern world.
