COMPASSION
According to Louis Berkhof in his book Systematic Th
eology, "If the grace of God contemplates man as guil
ty before God, and therefore in need of forgiveness, t
he mercy of God contemplates him as one who is bea
ring the consequences of sin, who is in a pitiable con
dition, and who therefore needs divine help. It may b
e defined as the goodness or love of God shown to th
ose who are in misery or distress, irrespective of thei
r deserts."
Compassion of God is exercised towards The afflicted
, the chastened, enemies, poor, weak, and saints. It w
as illustrated in Luke 10:33 and Luke15:20.
