Advanced Acoustic Steam Leak Detection System
Advanced Acoustic Steam Leak Detection System
Advanced Acoustic Steam Leak Detection System
Lintech was founded by Mr. Ravi Bhandari in 1986 who saw a need for advanced
acoustic detection systems to be made in India. The idea was originally brought to life
by Mr Brian A. Tero of Lintvalve (U.K.), the inventor and pioneer of acoustic steam
leak detection technology. With the growing demand in the energy sector, there was a
void of detection systems that could help manage boilers efficiently and safely. Over
the past two decades Lintech has successfully installed and supported its ASLD
systems in various power plants all over the country. Systems are still functional after
over twenty years of continuous use.
Why monitor steam leak?
It is vital to detect tube leaks in steam generating boilers as soon as possible,
because some leaks develop into major failures, they can cause substantial
secondary damage and even catastrophic failure, with a risk of operator injury.
This result in costly repairs and a boiler shutdown (outage) causing substantial
financial loss.
Normally, operators detect tube leaks by either listening for steam jet noise,
watching for increase in make-up water consumption or using chemical tracers.
However these methods are intensive and do not give sufficient warning to allow
a planned outage for leaks and repairs.
Although pin-hole leaks do not affect boiler operations directly, as they grow over
time, they can cause severe damage to adjacent tubes especially in the superheated
or reheated section.
An early warning leak detection system has more important as modern boilers
increase in capacity and design optimise efficiencies by increasing steam
temperatures and pressure to supercritical levels. In addition, greater plant
availability, reduces maintenance costs, boiler down-time consistent and load
requirements and the availability of alternative generating capacity makes a leak
detection a priority.
Why redesign if the system
works?
•The older system is an analogue system and can no longer meet the needs of
today's requirement.
•The old electronics is now obsolete and can no longer be repaired or
supported with spares.
•There is no provision to store and retrieve data which makes trend analysis
difficult and expensive.
•It is not easy to integrate with the other electronic systems like DCS and
warning system.
•Integrate the system so it is easier to maintain and is more cost effective.
•Develop an indigenous system to support our Honorable Prime Minister’s
‘MAKE IN INDIA’ campaign and reduce foreign reliance.

Trend Analysis
Lintech ASLD Software
•The system software allows real time monitoring of the entire setup.
•Steam leaks can be kept under supervision as they develop and reach critical levels.
•A real-time display of the boiler structure effectively marks the position of each sensor
in the system.
•An alarm control mechanism to set levels for each sensor dB levels.
•An optional purge command output fro soot blowing.
•Trend analysis to monitor leaks over time and keep track of leaks
•Software interface to integrate alarm triggers and other softwares.
•Optional web interface to monitor data through Lan / Internet.
