    reference questions.
    In a "Reference" question, you are Here are highlighted words you
    asked what the highlighted word might be asked about:
    refers to. If it's a pronoun then you ⪢ 1. Subject pronoun: it, they
    need to identify what word the ⪢ 2. Object pronoun: it, them
    pronoun is replacing. ⪢ 3. Demonstrative pronoun:
    these, those, this, that
    Examples of Questions ⪢ 4. Possessive adjectives: its,
     Pronoun “they” in line x refers to ... their
     Pronoun “he” in line y refers to ... ⪢ 5. Other reference words: the
    former, the latter, one, ones,

    Strategies:
    ⪢ Remember! You don’t need a full understanding of the
    complete passage in order to solve this question type.
    ⪢ Read a few sentences that come before it.
    ⪢ Eliminate options that occur after the reference in the
    passage
    ⪢ You can substitute the answer (option) with the reference
    in the passage. If the answer makes sense when you
    substitute it, it may be the correct answer.
