Aerobics is a term that was coined in the late 1960s by Dr. Cooper, to identify a series of cardiovascular exercises he had developed to combat coronary artery disease.
Dr. Cooper, an avowed exercise enthusiast, was personally and
professionally puzzled about why some people with excellent muscular strength were still prone to poor performance at tasks such as long-distance running, swimming, and bicycling. He began measuring systematic human performance using a bicycle ergometer, and began measuring sustained performance in terms of the ability to utilize oxygen. BICYCLE ERGOMETER "AEROBICS" (1968) "THE AEROBICS WAY" (1977) His groundbreaking book, Aerobics, was published in 1968, and included scientific exercise programs using running, walking, swimming and bicycling. The book came at a fortuitous historical moment, when increasing weakness and inactivity in the general population was causing a perceived need for increased exercise.
He also developed both term and specific exercise method for
aerobics, in San Antonio Airforce Hospital in Texas. JACKIE SORENSEN (1969) JACKIE SORENSEN (2014) Aerobic dancing was invented by Jacki Sorensen in 1969, inspired by Cooper's book. Sorensen began teaching her method and spreading it throughout the U.S. in the hands of hundreds of instructors in the 1970s. At the same time, Judi Missett's Jazzercise was taking off in the form of dance studio franchises in the U.S. . Aerobics gained greater popularity, spreading worldwide after the release of Jane Fonda's Workout video in 1982, sparking an industry boom.. Cooper Clinic exists to help patients reach and sustain the best health possible through its worldrenowned comprehensive physical exams. Cooper Clinic opened in 1970. Philosopher once said:
