 Cement Manufacturing Process
Cement manufacturing is a complex process that begins with mining
and then grinding raw materials that include limestone and clay, to a
fine powder, called raw mix.
It is then heated to high temperatures in a cement kiln. In this
process, the chemical bonds of the raw materials are broken down
and then they are recombined into new compounds. We get a semi
finished product called the clinker.

The clinker is then condensed and its
temperature is reduced in a cooling
device. It changes to a semi-liquid form.

The condensed clinker is finally

processed into cement and then packed
and graded and ready for use

The properties of the clinker depends on the specifications
required of the final cement. They are measured by the relative
compositions of its four phases alite, belite, celite and felite.
As a process engineer in the industry one must use the relative
composition of the clinker to prepare the raw mix and fix
various parameters such as LSF, AM, SM etc. Calculations
will be involved in preparing the optimum raw mix for the best
suited clinker for a given cement…
