INTRODUCTION

 Solar energy plays a major role in present days

 The plastic solar cells uses nanotechnology and contains the first.
 Solar cells able to harness the Sun’s invisible, infrared rays
 Plastic solar cells could one day become five more times more efficient than
current solar cell technology
 It uses specially designed nano particles called quantum dots. The quantum
dots with a polymer to make the plastic that can defect energy in the
infrared.
How do plastic solar cells changes light
into Electricity?

. Sunlight creates a plus (+) and a minus (-) charge

at the interface between two polymers. The (-)
charge moves to the (-) pole of the solar cell and
the (+) charge to the (+) pole. These poles work
just like those in battery, but are powered by the
sun and never run out as long as the sun shines
Working of plastic solar cell.

• It requires semiconductor nanorods(7nm by

60 nm).
• The heart of a solar cell is a nm thick film
• It consist of cadmium selenide (CdSe)nano
rods and blended with P3HT(poly-
3hexythiophene)
• This electron travels the length of rod until
it is collected by aluminium election.
• The hole is transferred to the plastic which
is known as a hole carrier and conveyed to
the electrode creating current.
Which type of plastic used in plastic
solar cell technology.
There

There are many application areas of conducting

polymers. Currently most focus in given to
organic light emitting diodes(OLED) and organic
polymer solar cell
Advantages

 They are more efficient and more practical in

application.

 Traditional solar cells are bulky panels. This is

very compact.

 This is considered to be 30% more efficient when

compared to conventional solar cell.
Disadvantages

 Relatively shorter life spon when

continuously exposed to sunlight.

 Could possibly require higher maintenance

and constant monitoring.
Why use plastic solar cells?

 Low maintenance, long lasting source of energy.

 Provide cost-effective power supplies.

 Non-polluting and silent source of electricity.

 Convenient and flexible source of small amounts of power.

Future scope

 Improve the time spon of plastic solar cell for widely use.

 Decrease the cost of manufacture of plastic solar cell

 Improve the efficiency of plastic solar cell.

Conclusion

 Plastic solar cells help in exploiting the infrared radiation.

 More effective when compared to conventional solar cells.

 They can even work on cloudy days
