Centrifufal Pump and Multi Stage Pump
Centrifufal Pump and Multi Stage Pump
Centrifugal pumps are used to induce flow or raise a liquid from level to a high level .
It works on simple mechanism . A centrifugal pump rotational energy , often from a motor to energy in a
moving fluid .
Two main parts responsible for this pump are :
Impeller
Casing
The impeller is the rotating part of the pump and the casing is airtight
container
Passage which surrounds the impeller. The fluids enter through the casing
into the eye of the Impeller (center) blades and is whirled tangentially and
radially outward until it
Leaves the impeller into the diffuser part of the casing .While passing
through the
Impeller ,the fluids is gaining both velocity and pressure .
FACTORS AFFECT CENTRIFUFAL PUMP:
1) Working fluid viscosity .
2) Operating temperatures and pressures
3) Net positive suction head and cavity
4) Vapour pressure of the working fluid .
5) Specific density and gravity or working
ADVANTAGES OF CENTRIFUGAL PUMP :
1. Oil and energy : used by refineries ,pumping crude oil , slurry mud .
2. Waste management , agriculture and manufacturing :waste water
processing plants ,municipal industry , drainage ,gas processing
,irrigation etc
3. Pharmaceutical ,chemical and food industries : plants ,hydrocarbons,
4. Various industries (Manufacturing industrial,
chemicals,pharmaceuticals ,food production,aerospace etc) : for the
purposes of cryogenies and refrigerants.
CENTRIFUGAL PUMP STANDARDS
ANSI/API 610-1995 - General Pumps for General Refinery
Service”. It includes pumps used in the petroleum, heavy duty
chemical and gas industries.
DIN EN ISO5199-Technical Specifications for centrifugal pumps
ASME B73.1-2001-Centrifugal Pumps for Chemical Process
ASME B73.2-2003-Specification for Horizontal End Suction
Centrifugal Pumps for Chemical Process. Similar to the above
standard, but concerns vertical centrifugal pumps.
BS 5257:1975-Specification for horizontal end-suction centrifugal
pumps up to 16 bar- It includes the principal dimensions and
nominal duty point as well as the dimensions for seal cavities
and base plate installations.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CENTRIFUGAL PUMP AND
CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSER
The main difference are in
