INTRODUCTIO
N
A world without people is impossible. Without people
there would be no society , economy or culture.
Population refers to the total number of beings living
in a particular area. It helps us get an estimate of the
number of beings and how to act accordingly.
It is an important aspect when it comes
to the development of the country. In the following
slides, we will be going through the information about
the population of Maharashtra and Odisha.
Population In
Maharashtra
Maharashtra is the second-most populous sub-
national entity on earth and India's second-most
populous state. Maharashtra has an estimated
population of 126,000,000, which is the second most
populous sub-national entity. The state has an overall
population density of 950 people per square mile or
370 per square kilometer. This density varies, of
course, and the capital is one of the most densely
populated cities on earth.
Maharashtra Population
Growth
Maharashtra is the second-most populous state in India, and its
residents account for nearly 9.3% of India's total population.
In 2011, the state grew 15.99% over the last decade, while the
decade before it rose more than 22.5%. Since independence,
the state has had a decadal growth rate exceeding the national
average, except in 1971 and 2011.
In 2013, it was found that Maharashtra's urban population
growth had slowed by more than 10% between 2001 and 2011,
rising 23.67% compared to an increase of more than 34.5%
between 1991 and 2001. This decline in growth is due to lower
fertility and reduced internal migration numbers.
Maharashtra Urban Population 2011
Out of total population of Maharashtra, 45.22% people live in
urban regions. The total figure of population living in urban
areas is 50,818,259 of which 26,704,022 are males and while
remaining 24,114,237 are females. The urban population in the
last 10 years has increased by 45.22 percent.
Sex Ratio in urban regions of Maharashtra was 903 females
per 1000 males. For child (0-6) sex ratio the figure for urban
region stood at 899 girls per 1000 boys. Total children (0-6
age) living in urban areas of Maharashtra were 5,637,563. Of
total population in urban region, 11.09 % were children (0-6).
Average Literacy rate in Maharashtra for Urban regions was
88.69 percent in which males were 92.12% literate while
female literacy stood at 75.75%. Total literates in urban
region of Maharashtra were 40,071,529.
Maharashtra Rural
Population 2011
Of the total population of Maharashtra state, around 54.78
percent live in the villages of rural areas. In actual numbers,
males and females were 31,539,034 and 30,017,040
respectively. Total population of rural areas of Maharashtra
state was 61,556,074. The population growth rate recorded
for this decade (2001-2011) was 54.78%.
In rural regions of Maharashtra state, female sex ratio per
1000 males was 952 while same for the child (0-6 age) was
890 girls per 1000 boys. In Maharashtra, 7,688,954 children
(0-6) live in rural areas.
In rural areas of Maharashtra, literacy rate for males and
female stood at 85.15 % and 64.80 %. Average literacy rate in
Maharashtra for rural areas was 77.01 percent. Total
literates in rural areas were 41,482,761.

Odisha
Odisha population in 2021 is expected to
be 46.8 Million (4.68 Crores), By the mid
of 2020, total population of Odisha is
projected to be 46,356,334. It is the 8th
largest state by area with 155,707 sq km,
and the 11th largest by population.
Odisha Population 2011
As per details from Census 2011, Orissa has population of 4.2
Crores, an increase from figure of 3.68 Crore in 2001 census.
Total population of Orissa as per 2011 census is 41,974,218 of
which male and female are 21,212,136 and 20,762,082
respectively. In 2001, total population was 36,804,660 in
which males were 18,660,570 while females were 18,144,090.
The total population growth in this decade was 14.05 percent
while in previous decade it was 15.94 percent. The population
of Orissa forms 3.47 percent of India in 2011. In 2001, the
figure was 3.58 percent.
Odisha Urban
Population 2011
Out of total population of Orissa, 16.69% people live in urban
regions. The total figure of population living in urban areas is
7,003,656 of which 3,625,933 are males and while remaining
3,377,723 are females. The urban population in the last 10
years has increased by 16.69 percent.
Sex Ratio in urban regions of Orissa was 932 females per
1000 males. For child (0-6) sex ratio the figure for urban
region stood at 913 girls per 1000 boys. Total children (0-6
age) living in urban areas of Orissa were 747,324. Of total
population in urban region, 10.67 % were children (0-6).
Average Literacy rate in Orissa for Urban regions was 85.75
percent in which males were 90.72% literate while female
literacy stood at 74.31%. Total literates in urban region of
Orissa were 5,364,680.
Odisha Rural
Population 2011
Of the total population of Orissa state, around 83.31 percent
live in the villages of rural areas. In actual numbers, males and
females were 17,586,203 and 17,384,359 respectively. Total
population of rural areas of Orissa state was 34,970,562. The
population growth rate recorded for this decade (2001-2011)
was 83.31%.
In rural regions of Orissa state, female sex ratio per 1000
males was 989 while same for the child (0-6 age) was 946 girls
per 1000 boys. Child population forms 12.94 percent of total
rural population.
In rural areas of Orissa, literacy rate for males and female
stood at 79.65 % and 59.95 %. Average literacy rate in Orissa
for rural areas was 70.22 percent. Total literates in rural
areas were 21,377,915.
