WHAT IS COVID-19 ???

• COVID-19 is a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. 'CO' stands for

corona, 'VI' for virus, and 'D' for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as
'2019 novel coronavirus' or '2019-nCoV.’
• Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly
discovered coronavirus.
• Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate
respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  Older people,
and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes,
chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.
ORIGIN OF CORONAVIRUS – WUHAN
(CHINA)????
The mystery around the origin of the virus has remained far from resolved. The virus
was first reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan and since then China has been
chided for its lack of transparency.

Eighteen months since China reported the first patient with Covid-19 like symptoms,
the deadly SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread like wildfire over the world claiming the lives
of over 35 lakh people and infecting over 16.8 crore in more than 180 countries.
HOW IS “CORONAVIRUS”
TRANSMITTED… (VIDEO)
Current evidence suggests that the virus
spreads mainly between people who are in
close contact with each other, typically
within 1 metre (short-range). A person can
be infected when aerosols or droplets
containing the virus are inhaled or come
directly into contact with the eyes, nose, or
mouth.

The virus can also spread in poorly

ventilated and/or crowded indoor settings,
where people tend to spend longer periods
of time. This is because aerosols remain
suspended in the air or travel farther than 1
metre (long-range).

BLACK FUNGUS
• Mucormycosis, or black fungus, is
a rare but serious infection that
requires medication or removal
surgery.
• SARS-CoV-2 infection and
COVID-19 treatment make the
immune system vulnerable to other
infections, including black fungus.
• With the rise in black fungus cases,
India faces a shortage of
treatments in the face of two
epidemics.
