Question 4:

How did you use media technologies in the construction and

research, planning and evaluation?
Research and planning
• While researching and planning for our music video we used media technologies such as, the
internet to go onto YouTube to look at other music videos to gain some inspiration from.
• We also used our flip cameras to film people giving feedback on out initial ideas, so that we
could make sure we followed things that our target audience would want to make our video as
successful as possible. Also filming behind the scenes footage so we could put it on our blogs to
show our progress.
• We used our Mac’s to help us by putting together some initial filming ideas, we used our song
to film some basic camera angles that we wanted to use in our final music video, and this
helped us to plan out exactly what we wanted to include in our video.
• By using scribed we managed to put together a meeting long, so we could organise when we
were going to meet up to film, which enabled us to plan out our time effectively.
• By spending time on the radio stations websites, we could research into our genre more, and
what was expected to be in our music video, by going on popular radio stations websites we
could see what songs have brought out the latest music videos, and what ones seemed to be
more popular with what audiences.
• We used an iPhone to take pictures and video’s of locations that we planned to use in our music
video.
Construction:
• We constructed our music videos on our Mac’s using software's such as Final
cut express and imovie, we used these software’s to create some effects in
our music video such as split screens and a screen within a screen.
• We used Flip camera’s and Sony camera’s to film the footage of our music
video, we used both camera’s so that we could film from two different
camera angle’s at the same time.
• We took an iPod and portable speakers to take onto location with us so that
we could have the song playing while we filmed, this enabled us to properly
lip sync with the song, and film the parts that we needed to.
• We used YouTube to upload our video at certain stages of editing to show our
progress, we would then put each copy of our music video onto our blogs.
• We downloaded fonts from websites to create our credits for our music
video, this allowed us to use a more creative font, than what iMovie allowed
us to do, which made our credits look more professional.
Evaluation:
• To start our evaluation stage off we used software’s such as Microsoft Word and
PowerPoint to write up a couple of our evaluation questions.
• By using the Flip camera to record Audience feedback after our showing at school, which
we done as extra work, we had more efficient feedback to base our evaluation on.
• We used YouTube to upload footage of Audience feedback and to get screen shots of
related music video’s to include in our evaluation.
• Social networking sites such as Facebook helped us to gain critical feedback from people
who fitted our target audience of our music video, we sent inbox messages to our
contacts which included questions relating to our music video and our digi pack and
magazine adverts, which we had created to help the promotion of our artist and her song.
• By continuously putting posts up on Blogspot.com we were able to evaluate our own
performance at the end of making of our music video.
• We used a camera to take pictures of our audience feedback questionnaires to then
upload to our blog.
