ISO 9000 • The ISO 9000 series of Quality Systems provides guidelines of model quality assurance system for a manufacturing , service industry on the principles of TQM. • Adoption of ISO standards paves way of international acceptability. • IS 14000 series is equivalent Indian guidelines of standards. • ISO is the short form of International Organization for Standardization located at Geneva, Switzerland. India is one of the member. • The quality control, quality assurance, quality management differ and have conflicting meaning countries. So, need of international standards for quality was experienced and ISO came into existence. • There are six ISO standards. ISO 8402, ISO 9000, ISO 9001, ISO 9002, ISO 9003, and ISO 9004. Latter five are popularly known as ISO 9000 series. PS Kushwaha, Hewett Polytechnic, Lucknow 3 ISO 9000 v/s IS 14000 • ISO 8402 / IS 13999 deals with standardization of quality vocabulary and covers definitions of various concepts connected with the quality systems, quality policy and quality assurance. • ISO 9000 / IS 14000 is the road map for the series providing guidelines for selection and use of standards meant for quality management. • ISO 9001 / IS 14001 deals with quality system model for Quality Assurance in Design, Development, Production, Installation and Servicing. • ISO 9002 / IS 14002 deal with quality system model for Quality Assurance in Production and Installation. • ISO 9003 / IS 14003 deals with quality system model for final inspection and testing. • ISO 9004 / IS 14004 deals with quality management, quality system elements, quality cost, safety and liability.
