This document discusses plumbing drainage, storm, and vent systems. It describes gray water as wastewater from bathing fixtures that excludes toilet and kitchen waste. Black water refers to water containing feces and urine flushed from toilets. Storm water drains excess rain and ground water from impervious surfaces. The document also outlines different types of traps used in plumbing including P-traps, S-traps, bottle traps, floor traps, and intercepting traps to prevent foul gases from entering buildings.

Plumbing system Topics • What is drainage system • Type of water • Type of traps • Pipe size • Slope and chambers • Strom water system • Types of drains What is Drainage system • This system includes all the piping within public or private premises that convey sewage or other liquid waste to an approved point of disposal. Type of water • Gray Water- It includes wastewater from bathtub, shower, lavatories, cloth washer & laundry Tub/sink. Excludes toilet waste, kitchen & dishwasher waste or similar contaminated source. Also know as waste water. • Black water- It is the water that contains feces and urine as they are flushed from the toilet. It is also known as sewage water. • Storm water-It is a system designed to drain excess rain and ground water from impervious surfaces such as paved streets, car parks, parking lots, footpaths, sidewalks, and roofs. They are fed bystreet gutters on most motorways, freeways and other busy roads, as well as towns in areas which experience heavy rainfall. Traps • A fitting or device so designed and constructed as to provide , when properly vented, a liquid seal that prevent the back passage of air without materially affected the flow of sewage or wastewater through it. • Types- – P trap – S trap – Bottle Trap – Floor trap – Gully trap – Intercepting Trap P trap & S Trap • The p-trap is a pipe fitting that combines a u-shaped pipe with a 90 degree elbow. • Two u shaped pipes as shown in below. Bottle trap • When we use the basin, the used water goes through the basin waste, into the drainage pipe and then into the sewer. • The bottle trap prevents gases to enter the bathrooms, thus helping maintain hygiene. Floor trap • This trap is provided in the floor to collect waste water from washbasin, shower, sink and bathroom etc. These are available in cast iron or UPVC material and have removable grating on the top of the trap. The minimum depth of water seal should be 50 mm. Gully Trap • These traps are constructed outside of building to carry waste water discharge and connected to the nearest building drain/sewer that foul gases from sewer do not come to the house. • It also prevents the entry of cockroach And other insect from sewer line. Intercepting Trap • This trap is provided at the last main hole of building sewerage to prevent entry of foul gases from public sewer to building sewer. It has a deep-water seal of 100 mm. Drainage Fixture Unit (DSFU) Blackwater is water that contains feces and urine as they are flushed from the toilet. It is also known as sewage water. It contains harmful bacteria and its treatment is different from other water treatments. Greywater is water that came from laundry, dishwashing and other household activities. It doesn’t contain as harmful bacteria as blackwater and can be easily treated.
