STATEMENT OF THE
PROBLEM
This study aims to provide a solution to one of the Talisay City
Government’s problems which is the squatter settlement under the
Mananga Bridge, Talisay City, basis for constructing a low-cost housing
project.

1. How many families are informally settling in Mananga Bridge, Talisay

City?
2. What problems does the squatter settlement brought to the government
of Talisay City?
3. What is the established process for squatter relocation?
4. What are the specific steps in constructing a low-cost housing project?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The City Government of Talisay
 The main beneficiaries of this study or proposal
 Can aid their future projects or studies related to squatter relocation.
 Give them an idea as to the cost and benefit of constructing low – cost
housing.
The Environment
 Will reduce the amount of improperly disposed of garbage
 lessen the clogged river/waterways due to the improperly disposed garbage
The Squatter Settlers
 This study will provide them a better and safer shelter since they will be
relocated to a safer environment.
RELEVANT THEORIES
This study uses three theories:
•The theory about right to housing
- It pointed a lot of possible reasons why people chose to settle informally.
- One of the reasons indicated is the eagerness to meet their basic social needs.
•The Urban Ecological Theory
- analyzes that cities or urban serves as the place or environment where people immigrate for
a living.
•The Access Theory
- suggested that urban governance path really contributed a lot to the urban poor housing.
- urban governance has changed overtime and access to low-income housing have also
evolved in a positive way through rights-based.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study uses descriptive research design wherein the researchers will describe

the current situation/ struggles of the squatter settlers in Mananga Bridge, Talisay

City. The description of the said topic will help the researchers to convince the

government to accept the main intention of this study which is to propose a

housing project. This study will also describe the housing project that the

researcher’s aim to propose.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY
The respondents of this study will be gathered from the residents or squatter

settlers of Mananga bridge, Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City. The researcher will

be getting one representative from each of the families to answer the self-

administered survey questionnaires.

RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT
This study focuses on the squatter settlement under the bridge located at Barangay

Tabunok, Talisay City, Cebu, known as Mananga Bridge. This bridge was constructed to

provide a footbridge that will ease the traffic in the south district.

This study will be conducted at Sitio Lobo, Barangay Bonbon, Cebu City. It will be the

proposed location of the lot where the housing project for the squatter settlers in Mananga

Bridge will be built or constructed.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
The instrument used in this study is a researcher-made questionnaire to gather
the needed data. The questionnaire will have parts
•The first part consists of questions that made it possible to gather the personal
information of the respondents, especially the total number of the families
residing in the area and about how many members do their family have
•The second part of the questionnaire has a combination of a subjective and
dichotomous type of question to elicit responses from respondents about the
problems that they encountered as settlers in the said area.
•Third part will be comprised of a Likert scale type of question to find out the
respondents’ chosen option that best aligns with their views. And to dig up the
extent to which they agree or disagree with a particular question or statement.
RESEARCH PROCEDURES
Considering that the respondents might not have enough tools to answer the survey
questionnaire online, once approved, the researchers will personally distribute the self-
administered survey questionnaires to the respondents.
Data Gathering
The researchers will also provide researcher-made survey questionnaires to the
respondents to collect the data needed to describe the problems that the government of
Talisay City have struggled to solve with due to the squatter settlement in Mananga
Bridge and to determine the number of families settling in the said squatter area.
