Reliability Mechanism—Equipment Level Protection
 Equipment level protection
 SCC 1+1 active/standby protection
Two system control & communication units (SCC) are inserted into the subrack: One serves as the active
board, and the other serves as the standby board. The system also provides external storage devices for
backing up NE configuration data. When one SCC board is replaced, the external storage devices can be
used for restoring the NE configuration data.
 XCS 1+1 active/standby protection
Two XCS boards are inserted into the subrack: One serves as the active cross-connect board, and the other
serves as the standby cross-connect board.
 Input working power supply (-48V/-60V) 1+1 protection
There are two channels of -48V/-60V DC inputs. The two channels provide protection for each other. The
failure of one power supply does not affect the normal working of the system.
 OTU secondary power 1: N backup
The scheme of distributed power supply and centralized protection is adopted to protect the OTU secondary
power supply. The OSN 6800 realizes the scheme through the SCC; the OSN 3800 realizes the protection
scheme through its AUX.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 25

Features of Transmission Technology
 Features of transmission technology
 Provides excellent capacity expansion capability.
 Supports the ESC and OSC supervisory channels.
 Supports the FEC and AFEC forward correction technologies.
 Supports the EDFA and RAMAN amplification technologies
 Supports the jitter suppression function.
 Supports ALS.
 Supports the optical power management features IPA, ALC and APE.
 OSN6800 master/slave subrack mode
When multiple subracks are needed to form an NE, the active/standby subrack mode must be
adopted for unified management. In master/slave subrack mode, multiple subracks are displayed as
one NE in the NMS. One master subrack can manage seven slave subracks. Generally, the subrack
with the optical layer board or the overhead board is selected as the master subrack.
Note: A slave subrack cannot be upgraded to a master subrack. It is prohibited to upgrade from
HUB mode to master/slave mode.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 26

System Maintenance Features
 System maintenance features
 The OSN 6800/3800 supports reuse of boards, greatly facilitating maintenance.
 Provides operation and maintenance interfaces and auxiliary alarm interfaces.
 Provides diverse OTN monitoring functions.
 Supports managing the whole optical transmission system through OptiX iManager T2000,
Web LCT, and OptiX Toolkit.
 Supports ECC over DCC, IP over DCC, and OSI over DCC, the protocols that realize
communication between the NEs and the NMS.
 Supports loading software packages.
 The software package loading function is to pack all NE software to be upgraded into one
package, and update the NE software by loading the package. The software package is a
virtual concept. It does not pack all software into a file. Instead, it gathers all software
necessary to the NE, and forms a logical software package through a software package
description file.

The OSC adopts different communication mode and protocols. Therefore, it is necessary to drop the OSC information of the OSN
900A through the SCC board, and then send the OSC information to the Ethernet management interface of the NG WDM through
the FE port, or OSC color-wavelength signal straightly access into the client side of ECOM board and then transport the OSC
signal to AUX board. Finally, the OSC information is transparently sent to the NMS through the IP over DCC function.
