Check-Ins in GPS
The following guide provides an overview of the
Check-In process (Prepare, Discuss, Record),
and step by-step instructions for preparing for a
Check-In in GPS for both employees & managers.
The key to a good Check-In is in the preparation.

Goals
FOR EMPLOYEES & MANAGERS
Creating Goals – for employees and managers 
Step 1: Navigate to the Performance page on GPS via Me >
Career and Performance > Goals
Note: Performance Goals are tied to a
'Review Period' and Goal Plan in GPS.
Make sure you select the right one!

Step 2:  Click ‘Add’ to create


Performance Goals. 

If your check-in is going to include a Career Discussion ensure you have 1-2 Development goals drafted.

Creating Goals – for employees and managers 
Step 2: Complete the 4 key elements for each Performance Goal

4 key elements
• Goal name/Statement
• Target Completion Date
• Description
• Success Criteria

Step 3:  Click ‘Save’.

Step 3: Click ‘Add’ to add additional goals. Click ‘Submit’ only
once you are ready to send goals to your manager for approval.

Note: Do not submit until you have


added all of your goals. Click ‘submit’

Creating Development Goals – for employees and managers 
Step 1: Navigate to the Performance page on GPS via Me >
Career and Performance > Career Development

Step 2: Click ‘Add’ under the


Career Development Plan section

Creating & updating
the Check-In
document
FOR EMPLOYEES
Creating the Check-In document – for employees
Step 1: Navigate to the Performance page on GPS via Me >
Career and Performance > Performance
Note: You will need to create a new
Check-In document for each quarterly
check-in.

Step 2: Ensure you have


selected the correct Review
Period. Click ‘Add’ to create your
Check-In document.

Creating the Check-In document – for employees
Step 3: Update the ‘Document Name’ field with the actual date
you have scheduled the Check-In.

Step 4: Click “Save”.


You have now Created the
Check-in Document.
Note: Include the actual date of the check-in discussion in
‘Document Name’ field.
‘Date’ field is the date the Check-In document is created.

Updating the Check-In document – for employees
Navigate to the Performance page on GPS: Navigate via Me >
Career and Performance > Performance

Step 1: Click on the Check-In


document you would like to
update

Note: If you have accidentally created more than


one check-in document for the quarter, email
pss@ghd.com and for the additional document to be
deleted

Step 2: Click ‘Edit’ to start


updating the Check-In document
with relevant details.

Note: If you have not created any performance goals or


development goals, these sections will not appear.

Step 3: Update the questionnaire including assigning a


performance rating for the previous quarter. Visit the
Quarterly Check-Ins section of the myPerformance portal
for more information. Click ‘Save’ when complete. This
information is now visible to your Manager.

Updating the Check-In document – for employees

Step 4: To add notes for


discussion against specific goals
click on the goal. Click ‘Add’ to
add a note & save when
complete. This information is
now visible to your manager.

Updating the Check-
in document
FOR MANAGERS
Updating the Check-In document – for managers

Step 1: Once the Employee


creates a Check-in document, the
Manager will receive an FYI email
and system notification. Click the
hyperlink in the notification to
navigate to the Check-In
document.

Alternatively, navigate via My


Team > Goals and Performance
Overview.

Step 2: Click on the relevant


Check-In document for the
Employee under the Check-Ins
heading

Step 3: Open the Check-In


Document you are wanting to
update.

Step 4: Expand each section to


review your Employee’s
responses in the Check-In
document including:
- the performance rating they
have assigned themselves
- the questionnaire and
- goal discussion topics

Step 5: Complete the manager questionnaire including


assigning a performance rating for the previous quarter.
Add any goal discussion topic notes for the Check-In &
click ‘Save’ when complete.

Note that once this information is saved it is visible to the employee.
