The Six Point Movement was a 1966 movement in East Pakistan led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that called for greater autonomy and realization of six demands to address discrimination faced by East Pakistanis. The six points included provisions for provincial autonomy in government, currency, taxation, foreign exchange, trade, and a separate militia. Though the movement failed to achieve its goals, it created political awakening in East Pakistan and galvanized the population to seek economic emancipation and self-determination through decentralization based on the region's own resources.

Pakistan, spearheaded by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which called for greater autonomy for East Pakistan. The movement’s main agenda was to realize the six demands put forward by a coalition of Bengali nationalist political parties in 1966, to West Pakistani rulers. Background of the moment
Discrimination in all sectors :
Government Jobs Educational Institutions Economy Armed Forces Security Culture During the 1965 Indo-Pak war the central government never took essential steps to ensure security of its eastern wing. It made people hopeless. The six points
1. The constitution should provide for a Federation of Pakistan in
its true sense based on the Lahore Resolution, and the parliamentary form of government with supremacy of a Legislature directly elected on the basis of universal adult franchise.
2. The federal government should deal with only tow subject:
Defense and foreign affairs, and all other residual subjects should be vested in the federating states. 3.Tow separate, but freely convertible currencies for two wings should be introduced; or if this is not feasible, there should be one currency for the whole country, but effective constitutional provisions should be introduced to stop the flight of capital from East to west Pakistan. Furthermore, a separate Banking Reserve should be established and separate fiscal and monetary policy adopted for East Pakistan.
4.The power of taxation and revenue collections shall be vested in
the federating units and the federal center will have no such power on the issue. The federation will be entitled to a share in state taxes to meet its expenditures. 5.There should be two separate accounts for the foreign exchange earnings of the two wings; the foreign exchange requirements of the federal government shall be met by the two wings equally or in ratio to be fixed; indigenous products shall move free of duty between the two wings, and the units to establish trade links with foreign countries.
6.East Pakistan shall have a separate militia or paramilitary force.
OUTCOME & LEGACY
There is no denying that the Six Point Movement created
an unprecedented political awakening that clearly indicated that East Pakistan was no longer open to the exploitation either of its resources or its share of external assistance. Politically speaking, the Six Point program galvanized an entire population to seek real economic emancipation by means of total decentralization of economic decision- making, to be based on the use of the region's own resources. It was, indeed, an unique resolve of our self- determination. Thank you all
