What are the characteristics of light?

Why do people love decorating their houses

with lights at Christmas or other Celebrations?

Can you see light?

How do light help us?

What is darkness?

What does bible tell us about light and

darkness?
Can Light can exist without the sun?
LET THERE BE LIGHT

In the beginning, God created the heavens

and the earth. The earth was without form
and void, and darkness was over the face of
the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering
over the face of the waters.” (Gen. 1:1-2)

And God said, "Let there be light," and

there was light. God saw that the light was
good, and he separated the light from the
darkness. God called the light "day," and the Revelation 22:5  There will be no more night.
darkness he called "night." And there was They will not need the light of a lamp or the
evening and there was morning—the first light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them
day (Gen. 1:3-5). light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
LIGHT DISCLOSES
Light reveals itself

How is God described in 1 John 1:5 ? What do you think this means?

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all

Would it be possible to know God if He chose not to reveal Himself? – 1 Timothy 6:15-16

which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is
immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever.
Amen.

Which two ways does God reveal Himself to us?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
(John 1:1-2)

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who
came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
Light reveals itself

The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by
sending his angel to his servant John,  who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus
Christ (Rev 1:1-2)
In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in
full strength. (Rev 1:16)
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he
judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no
one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. (Rev
19: 11-13)

• What are some primary things God has revealed about himself? (Gen 1:1, Isaiah 40:28, Exodus 3:13-15,Mark 1:9-11, John
3:16)- Creator, Everlasting God, Has a name, He has a Son, He loved us)

• Who specifically is the Light? Matt 4:16, John 1:3,18, Col 1:15-17, John 8:12) – Jesus Christ (Image of the invisible God)

• When Jesus said that His disciples – you and me – are to be the light of the world, what is our duty? – (Mathew 5:14-16)
Light Reveals Ourselves

What has His Light revealed to you about yourself that you hadn’t known previously?

You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence (Psalm 90:8)

The human spirit is the lamp of the LORD that sheds light on one's inmost being ( Proverbs 20:27)

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and
lead me in the way everlasting (Psalms 139:23-24)

What have you done about the revelation?

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just

and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be
a liar and his word is not in us (1 john 1:8-10)
Light Reveals Ourselves
If the Light has come, why is the world still so dark?
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were
evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But
whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in
the sight of God (John 3:19-21)

Is there anything or anyone that can hide from the light?

Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to
speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.  There is
nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.  What you have said in the dark will
be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
(Luke 12:1-3)

Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in
darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. (1 Cor 4:5)

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”  even
the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. Psalms 139:9-12)
When did the light penetrate the darkness of your life?

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have
redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Col 1:13-14)

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever
follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

 By these words of Christ we are advised to imitate His life and habits, if we wish to be truly enlightened and free from all
blindness of heart. Let our chief effort, therefore, be to study the life of Jesus Christ.

 The teaching of Christ is more excellent than all the advice of the saints, and he who has His spirit will find in it a hidden
manna. Now, there are many who hear the Gospel often but care little for it because they have not the spirit of Christ. Yet
whoever wishes to understand fully the words of Christ must try to pattern his whole life on that of Christ.
What good does it do to speak learnedly about the Trinity if, lacking humility, you displease the Trinity? Indeed it
is not learning that makes a man holy and just, but a virtuous life makes him pleasing to God.

For what would it profit us to know the whole Bible by heart and the principles of all the philosophers if we live without grace
and the love of God? Vanity of vanities and all is vanity, except to love God and serve Him alone.

Greatest wisdom -- to seek the kingdom of heaven through contempt of the world.

It is vanity, therefore, to seek and trust in riches that perish.

It is vanity also to court honor and to be puffed up with pride.
It is vanity to follow the lusts of the body and to desire things for which severe punishment later must come.
It is vanity to wish for long life and to care little about a well-spent life.
It is vanity to be concerned with the present only and not to make provision for things to come.
It is vanity to love what passes quickly and not to look ahead where eternal joy abides.

All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. (Ecc 1:8)

Try, moreover, to turn your heart from the love of things visible and bring yourself to things invisible. For they who
follow their own evil passions stain their consciences and lose the grace of God.
