WHAT IS SELF-AWARENESS?
Self-awareness is the habit of paying attention to the
way you think, feel, and behave. It is the initial step
for personality development

More specifically, self-awareness is about observing:


Pattern of emotion, Pattern of thoughts, Pattern of
behavior

 Pattern of Emotion : Ability to monitor,
discriminate and label appropriately one's own and
other’s emotion, and to use emotion to guide thinking
and behavior.

 Pattern of Behavior : To understand what


motivates behaviors or leads to self sabotage.

 Pattern of Thoughts : Filtering. We take the


negative details and magnify them while filtering out
all positive aspects of a situation. Polarized (“Black and
White”) Thinking, Overgeneralization. Jumping to
Conclusions. ...Catastrophizing.

Recognizing your weaknesses & Paying
attention to what bothers us about
others
 We can find things that we don’t like in others quite
irritating, like- a tendency to lie or bending truth,
avoiding conflicts etc.
 Enhance your self awareness- by analyzing you own
experiences & questioning yourself- “Could this be
a reflection of something in me that I dislike?”4
Meditating in our mind
 The term “Mindfulness meditation” refers to
~ “a simple practice of keeping the attention focused on breathing or
some physical sensation. If you notice your mind wandering in useless
thoughts, gently returning it to the point of focus.”

 It
is one of the best ways to learn more
about how your thoughts & emotions work.

Read high-quality fiction
 Spend 30 minutes and read a list of good
fiction.
 Ask friends to recommend a few of their
favorites.

Learn a new skill


 Learningsomething new increases self-
awareness by forcing us to 
think and act in novel ways.
 Learn to speak a new language or learn how
to juggle or learn anything new.
 Committing to learning a new skill is a

powerful exercise in mental flexibility and
self-awareness.
TRAVEL
 Travelling also helps us to increase our self awareness.
A short trip keeps our minds more flexible.

 When we travel to new places, there environments help us


to get out of our daily routine and help us to be self aware.

 Also when we travel, we meet new people and new


challenging situation which also help us to become self
aware.

DISCOVER YOUR BLIND
SPOTS BY ASKING FOR
FEEDBACK
 Good feedback is one of the fastest and most effective
ways to grow and improve ourselves.
 It can help us to find the hidden spots which we cant
see in ourselves that probably need improvement.
 We should take these feedback in a positive way and
thank them for giving it.

DRAW A TIMELINE OF YOUR
LIFE
 This is a simple exercise which can help us to gain self
knowledge and self understanding.
 All we need to do is write the major events of our life
whether they are big or small , positive or negative on
a blank sheet of paper.
 Once we have done, spend some time analyzing the
impact that each and every one of those events had
on your life.

IDENTIFY COGNITIVE
DISTORTIONS AND CLARIFY YOUR
VALUES
 Anyone can experience cognitive distortion. For some of us, distorted
thinking is a momentary blip. We get upset when we fail a math test. We
briefly reason that we’re bad at math, instead of realizing we need to
study more. But we typically move on and try again.

 For others, cognitive distortions are a pattern of thinking that


interferes with their lives and relationships. In these cases, distorted
thinking can lead to chronic anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems
such as misuse of substances.

 Next point is clarifying your value for example if one of the values is
Healing“ and you hold a fear that you don‘t make enough money working in
a healing capacity, then you may not be able to live this value. Instead
you continue working in a steady job doing bookkeeping, as your
subconscious mind beliefs this is more secure“, therefore preventing you10
living your values and a fulfilled life.

• More empathy toward others. It is one of the most important benefits
of self awareness. It helps to build better relationships.
• Improved critical thinking skills.
• Better leadership qualities. Self awareness boosts leadership qualities.
• Improved decision making. When your decisions are better , life is
better.

• Increased ability to change habits.
• Increased creativity. Gives more personal satisfaction when practise
creative hobby and produce a quality result.
• Higher self esteem. Allows to have an incredible amount of persistence
and belief in yourself.
• Better listening skills. It’s a characteristic as well as benefit.
