THESIS SYNOPSIS

TITLE : - A glory of Zen complex in the context of Japanese


architecture

INTRODUCTION: -
Zen is a type of Buddhism that focuses on awareness through the practice of meditation.
A philosophy of calm, reminiscent of that of the Buddhist denomination. A
denomination of Buddhism elaborated in Japan, they instead focus on achieving
enlightenment—a state of inner peace and wisdom. When followers reach this spiritual
echelon, they’re said to have experienced nirvana.
INTRODUCTION: -

(mercy) sangha (PMS) was
established to spread Buddha religion.
The motive was manifestation and
expansion of Buddhism, social,
educational and cultural progress of
the poor and trodden all over India
through its work. Pannyamitta is a
group developed and prospered by
preachers and teachers of Japanese
Buddhism ideology. The aim of
meditation is just sitting, that is,
suspending all judgmental thinking
and letting words, ideas, images and
thoughts pass by without getting
involved in them .
NEED: -
By establishing a connection between healing and architecture, it was decided that a Zen
complex would best incorporate ideas of health through architecture. Although the healing
effects of architecture could be translated to any building type such as - a school or a home or
an office space, a healing centre was chosen because of its direct connection to the various
modalities of healing. Therefore, the Zen complex was best suited to embody and translate
notions of health and wellness.
AIM: -
In order to spread awareness among the masses of Buddhist ideology based on Japanese
Buddhist tradition Design and development of spiritual Buddhist complex which is oriented
from Japanese community. So based on their ideology and philosophy this entire complex is
designed.
OBJECTIVE: -

•To establish a relationship in between healing, senses and architecture.


•To integrate recreational activity with meditation and healing with nature so that it will
leads to prevention of illness.
•To design a space where architecture reflect the Japanese architecture.
•To develop meditation complex where the physical and mental healing takes place.
•To learn and understand healing as a part of built environment.
•To explore how architecture provide spaces and events where healing can take place.

SCOPE : -
To integrate the structure by laws. To study the various types of meditation. Designing spaces
according to user behavioural patterns. Scheduling of pleasing views, to connect user to the
nature. To connect with Japanese architecture. To work on barrier free campus.

LIMITATIONS : -
The project is concerned in built form so, there will be limited research and study on
feasibility of project and detailed site suitability will not be analysed. The project will not
focus on structural analysis of built structures of resorts. The project will not cover acoustical
analysis. Locally available material will be used.
CASE STUDY : -
Global Vipassana Pagoda Matrimandir -  auroville
SITE SELECTION : - (site area around 11 acre)
Sindpuri
On the bank of wainganga river mahasamdhi bhumi maha
stupa inaugurated. Many other people from different countries
like monks and other famous personalities came here to
celebrate this festival. On the day poornima and amavasya of
every month thousands of people came together to pray and
worship the god. Now a day’s mahasamadhi bhoomi which is
one of the best samples of buddhist sculpture and become a
buddha pilgrimage site.
