Introduction to
Principles of Game Design
1. A principle is a statement or value that serves as a direction for action or assessment.

2. Principles are the backbone of a game, they can make or ruin it.

3. Principles are vital to remember when creating a game since they make it more engaging and
appealing.
My Learnings

The module on game design principles has made me realize that while
ideas are an important component of the game, principles are the
backbone of the game which can either make it fascinating or ruin it.
These principles are critical in creating an exciting and fair game. The
board game developed out of an understanding of these principles can
be seen below.
Battle of Conqueror’s
A board game which can be played by 4yrs or older and can
be 2 to 4 players
This game focuses on the battle between Britain and India.
PLOT
This is the recreation and informational guide of the battle between
India and Britain for the freedom of India. This enticing games also
includes information about the tools used by both the nation during the
fight.
Principles included in a game
 Plot - The battle between Britain and India.

 Risk – main characters death resets the players position.

 Reward - To conquer the opponent.

 Fairness – Both the teams have same advantages and disadvantages.

 Addiction Pathways – Players are tempted to take the shortest route possible.

 Attention vs Perception – leader draws the attention of the whole game making players
ignore perception.
Principles included in a game
 Core Gameplay Loop – Killing the leader resets the game.

 Co-operative and oppositional- team members play together to defeat the opponent.

 Min/Maxing- Leaders have minimum powers but bears maximum reward.

 Sequential – turn taking decisive game.

 Anticipation – who will win and the power ups makes the game unpredictable

 Appeal – patriotism of people towards India


Power Ups
Sword – Can kill opponent to the range of 1 block
Gun – Can kill opponent to the range of 2 blocks
Grenade – Clears out the whole row and resets every character present in
the row to start
Characters in Game
Leaders – They cannot use any power-ups and when they die the whole team
gets a reset to start
Fighters – The can use the power-ups and are the main fighting force.
Rules
1. Players cannot move unless they role a six on dice.

2. If the leader dies all characters of the team are sent to start.

3. Every character should reach opponents start in order to win.

• Game includes information about fighters from both the nations, their roles and the
tools used by them.
