• Rocky soil that made farming
near impossible
• Economy was based around
fishing and ship building
• The climate was cold and the air
was thin
• Puritans dominated the area

were cash crops
• Used slaves to work the plantations
• Had the longest growing season of
all the colonies because the
summers were hot and the winters
were mild

and Presbyterian

order to establish colonies
• This helped the colonies grow
because some people could not
afford to get to the colonies
