Subjunctive

▪ Subjunctive adalah kata kerja yang digunakan untuk

membayangkan akibat dari sesuatu yang tidak akan terjadi,
yang bisa berupa harapan, kebutuhan, dan selalu berlawanan
dengan kenyataan atau fakta.
▪ Kata-kata yang dgunakan dalam subjunctive :
 Wish = Berharap
 As if = Seakan-akan Disingkat menjadi 5S
 as though = Seolah-olah
 Would rather = Lebih suka
 If only = Seandainya / jika saja
 Fungsi Subjunctive

As if/ as though digunakan untuk menyatakan

keadaan yang tidak benar kenyataan atau
faktanya.

Wish, would rather, dan if only digunakan

untuk menyatakan suatu harapan atau
keinginan.
 Jenis-jenis subjunctive

1.Future subjunctive : pengharapan masa akan datang

2.Present subjunctive : pengharapan masa sekarang
3.Past subjunctive : pengharapan masa lampau/lalu
 1. Future Subjunctive 5S= Wish, As If, As Though,
Would Rather, If Only

Fakta / kesimpulan = Simple Future Tense

Formula = S1 + 5S + S2 + Would/Could + V1 Example:

I wish I could come to your party tomorrow.
(fact: I will not come)
Adverb of Time:
-Tonight
- tomorrow If only I could follow the tour to Bali next
-Soon month
-Next day, week, (fact: I will not follow
month, etc.
If only she would come with me
(fact: she will not come
 2. Present Subjunctive 5S= Wish, As If, As Though,
Would Rather, If Only

Fakta / kesimpulan = Simple Present Tense

Formula = S1 + 5S + S + Were/V2 Example:

I wish I knew what to do
Adverb of Time:
(fact: I don’t know what to do)
-Now
-Right now If only I didn’t have homework, i can sleep
-At this time
-At this moment (fact: I have homework)
-etc
Anto acts as if He were the manager
(fact: He is not a manager)
 3. Past Subjunctive 5S= Wish, As If, As Though,
Would Rather, If Only

Fakta / kesimpulan = Simple Past Tense

Formula = S1 + 5S + S + had (been)/ V3 Example:

She passed in front of me as if she had never known
Adverb of Time:
me
-Yesterday (fact: She knew me)
-Last night
-Last week, month,
year
My mother wish she had ironed the clothes last
-Two days ago night.
-etc (fact: She didn’t iron the clothes)

I wish I had studied harder when I was at school

(fact: I did not study harder)
