Introduction
ANTIOXIDANT

• Used in cosmetics that derived from certain vitamins,

mainly are A, C, and E (they are part of the body’s natural
defends and balance system).

• Antioxidant are thought to protect the skin by attacking

themselves to free radicals, minimizing the harm they do
in the skin.
• Chemical reactions that transfer electrons from a substance to
an oxidizing agent.

• Example: certain fruits are high in antioxidant such as

bananas, apples and grapes.
ANTIMICROBIAL
•Enable of destroying or inhibiting the growth of
microorganisms
•Exp: research on antimicrobial activities in cosmetics

ANTIOXIDANT
Antioxidants in Cosmetic

• Offers protection to the skin against damage

• Oxidative will damage DNA, RNA, proteins and cell

membranes occurs when the cellular concentration of
reactive oxygen species exceeds the capacity of the cell
to eliminate them

• Sun protection preparations and for cosmetics for aged

skin

• Protection against rancidity of fat components used in

the formulation of cosmetics
Advantages antioxidant in the
human body
To give strengthen our immune system

Eliminate waste and harmful chemicals, control blood

chemical levels (including sugar, cholesterol and
triglycerides), and slow aging

Some major Antioxidant benefits already proven are:

~Antioxidants help prevent heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure
~Prevent from cancer by disposing of toxics in the body and repairing cells
~Help to prevent and are treat numerous diseases and infections
ANTIOXIDANT
How antioxidants work???!!!
• Protect cells from damage by neutralizing
unstable atoms in molecules known as free
radicals

• Free radical chain reaction is substantial cellular

damage to the body in the form of wrinkles,age-
spots, and sunspots

• Most extreme form, the chain reaction can result

in a debilitating disease such as cancer
•Antioxidants will terminate these chain reactions by
removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other
oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves.

Example:

•It is the ability of alpha-tocopherol to pick up and

transport electrons that makes it an antioxidant

•All antioxidant agents work in this way to protect the

cells in the body from the damage of radicals
 Tolnaftate
Antifungal  Used to treat fungal infections such as
foot, ringworm, candidisis, meningitis.  Itraconazole

 The fungal organism will be kill without  Chlorphenesin

 There are often side-effects to some  Garlicoil with
drugs vitamin E

 Cool gel pad

Antibacterial
1)Benzoyl peroxide
• A chemical in organic peroxide family.

• Most frequently used acne treatment medications.

• Benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in countless

over-the-counter products, such as Clearasil and ProActive

• Benzoyl peroxide can be found over the counter in

cleansers, gels, and lotions, as well as in stronger
prescription cream
Antifungai
1) Tea tree oil
• One of the best herbs for treating skin problems.

• The standard treatment of benzyl peroxide to treat

acne. Antiseptic and anti-fungalthat infusions and oils
are useful in many types of infections, including those
caused by the herpes virus and Candida organisms.

• It treats shingles, acne, diaper rash, burns, cuts,

abrasions and infected wounds. Studies show tea tree
also stimulates immune-system functions
Antiparasit
1) Chloroquine

• Use to treating and suppressing acute attacks of certain strains of

malaria and a certain type of parasitic

• Chloroquine may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or

do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you
react to Chloroquine.

• Increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps,

or tanning booths until you know how you react to Chloroquine.
Antiviral
1) Translation / ribozymes

• A larger group which also includes antibiotic, antifungal and

antiparasitic drugs.
• Relatively harmless to the host, and therefore can be used to treat
infections
• Actively destroy virus particles outside the body.
• Antiviral that inspired by genomics is a set of drugs in which the
enzymes will cut apart viral RNA or DNA at selected sites.
• But synthetic ribozymes are designed to cut RNA and DNA at
sites that will disable them and in developed to deal with HIV.
• Modified cells that can be injected into a host to attack pathogens
by generating specialized proteins that block viral replication
