Job of Data Analyst

A data analyst is someone who scrutinises information using data


analysis tools. The meaningful results they pull from the raw data help
their employers or clients make important decisions by identifying
various facts and trends.
Methods Adopted To Understand The Job
Data
To research the Job incumbent’s role and responsibilities, the following
methods could be adopted to best understand Job:
Observation
▪ Observes the job holder at work and records what
he/ she does and how he/ she does and how much
time is needed for completion of a given task.
▪ Observation method may be used for analysing
repetitive, short cycle, unskilled and semi skilled
jobs.
Interviews
▪ Interviews the job holder and his/her supervisor to
elicit information about the Job.
▪ Judgements about the information to be included
and its degree of importance.
▪ Interview effectiveness method depends on the
interviewer and on the ability of the job holder to
make meaningful responses.
Questionnaires
• Questionnaires offer enough data on Jobs.
• Job holder fill in the given structured questionnaires which are approved by
their supervisors.
• Standard or prepared, questionnaires should contain the following basic
information:
✔ The Job title of the Job holder
✔ The Job title of the job holder’s manager or supervisor
✔ Job titles and numbers of the staff reporting to the Job holder
• Questions can cover such aspects of the Job as:
✔ The amount of supervision received and the degree of discretion allowed in making
decisions
✔ The typical problems to be solved and the amount of guidance available while solving
the problems
✔ The relative difficulty of the tasks to be performed
Checklists
• The response sheet contains fewer subjective judgements and
tends to be either yes or no variety.
• Checklist is prepared, to prepare the checklist it includes about
the relevant information about the job.
• Such information can be obtained by asking supervisors,
industrial engineers and others familiar with the work.

• Extensive knowledge of supervisors about a


job are used

• In this detail record of the activities for each day will be recorded
• This help to eliminate the errors caused by memory lapses the job
