E Health, What is e-health?
E Health refers to various information and services that is either shared
or modified through technology such as the internet .
The term itself emerged in the year 2000. It includes virtually all of the
aspects associated with medical informatics but also sets the main focus
around sending clinical data.
A broad range of elements are covered by eHealth such as:
• Telemedicine
• EMR ( Electronic Medical Records
• Health Informatics
• MHealth
• Geographic Information System
Of course these are certainly not every facet of eHealth and as time
goes on and technology grows more will be added to this list.

Telemedicine, telehealth
What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine is the practice of medicine using technology to deliver care at a
distance. A physician in one location uses a telecommunications infrastructure
to deliver care to a patient at a distant site.

What is telehealth?
Telehealth refers broadly to electronic and telecommunications technologies
and services used to provide care and services at-a-distance.

What’s the difference?

Telehealth is different from telemedicine in that it refers to a broader scope of
remote health care services than telemedicine. Telemedicine refers specifically
to remote clinical services, while telehealth can refer to remote non-clinical
services.

EMR, EHR
EMR stands for Electronic medical records, which are the digital
equivalent of paper records, or charts at a clinician's office. EMRs
typically contain general information such as treatment and medical
history about a patient as it is collected by the individual medical
practice.
What HER vs EMR
Both an EMR and EHR are digital records of patient health information.
An EMR is best understood as a digital version of a patient's chart. ...
By contrast, an EHR contains the patient's records from multiple
doctors and provides a more holistic, long-term view of a patient's
health.

Health Informatics
Healthcare Informatics is defined as “the integration of healthcare
sciences, computer science, information science, and cognitive science
to assist in the management of healthcare information” (Saba &
McCormick, 2015, p. 232
Health informatics, which is the intersection of people, technology, and
data to improve the safety and quality of patient care, can be found in
many forms

M Health
• mHealth is a component of eHealth. To date, no standardized
definition of mHealth has been established.
• For the purposes of the survey, the Global Observatory for eHealth
(GOe) defined mHealth or mobile health as medical and public health
practice supported by mobile devices, such as mobile phones, patient
monitoring devices, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and other
wireless devices.
• mHealth involves the use and capitalization on a mobile phone’s core
utility of voice and short messaging service (SMS) as well as more
complex functionalities and applications including general packet
radio service (GPRS), third and fourth generation mobile
telecommunications (3G and 4G systems), global positioning system
(GPS), and Bluetooth technology.

Geographic Information System
A geographic information system (GIS) is a system that creates,
manages, analyzes, and maps all types of data. GIS connects data to a
map, integrating location data (where things are) with all types of
descriptive information (what things are like there). This provides a
foundation for mapping and analysis that is used in science and almost
every industry. GIS helps users understand patterns, relationships, and
geographic context. The benefits include improved communication and
efficiency as well as better management and decision making.
“GIS is a computer system capable of assembling, storing,
manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information,
i.e. data identified according to their locations.

GIS = Geographic Information System
A GIS integrates hardware, software and data for capturing, managing,
analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced
information.

Principle of GIS
Data Capture
Data sources are mainly obtained from manual digitization and scanning
of aerial photographs, paper maps, and existing digital data sets.
Database Management and Update
Data security, data integrity, and data storage and retrieval, and data
maintenance abilities
Geographic Analysis
The collected information is analyzed and interpreted qualitatively and
quantitatively.
Preparing Result
One of the most exciting aspects of GIS technology is the variety of
different ways in which the information can be presented.

Data Representation
● GIS data represents real
world objects (e.g.
roads, land use,
elevation, trees,
waterways, etc.)
● There are 2 broad
methods used to store
data in GIS
1. Vector data model
2. Raster data model

Data Representation (Vector)
A coordinate-based data model that represents geographic features as
points, lines, and polygons.
Points
Location of Wells, Schools, or Points of Interest
Lines / Polylines
Road Centerlines, Rivers, Trails, or Streets
Polygons
Boundary of Cities, Lakes, or Forests

A spatial data model that defines space as an array of equally sized
cells arranged in rows and columns. Each cell contains an attribute
value and location coordinates

Wi-Fi
 A Wi-Fi enabled device such as a personal computer, mobile phone,
MP3 player or personal digital assistant can connect to the
Internet, within range of a wireless network.
 The coverage of one or more interconnected access points — called
a hotspot
 The Wi-Fi Alliance is a global, non-profit industry association of more
than 300 member companies devoted to promoting the growth of
wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs).
 Wi-Fi is a traditional Ethernet network, and requires configuration
to set up shared resources, transmit files, and to set up audio
links (for example, headsets and hands-free devices).
 Wi-Fi uses the same radio frequencies as Bluetooth, but with
higher power, resulting in a stronger connection.
 Wi-Fi is sometimes called "wireless Ethernet." This description is
accurate, as
• it also provides an indication of its relative strengths and
weaknesses.
 Wi-Fi requires more setup but is better suited for operating full-
scale networks; it enables a faster connection, better range from
the base station, and better security than Bluetooth.
