DATA ANALYSIS USING R – CASE

STUDY

Dr.K.Murugan
Electricity consumption analysis
• Electricity consumption analysis and power
quality monitoring in commercial buildings.
The aim of this analysis is to determine the
current situation in these buildings in order to
study the possibilities and limitations to
implement different energy efficiency
measures.
Electricity consumption
• Determine the wattage. Most small appliances
have wattage indicated on them, like a hair dryer,
computer or coffee maker.
• Know your habits.
• How many hours each day is the television used?
• Determine your electric rate.
• Do the math to determine the kwh usage and
cost.
 Electricity usage monitor
• To get specifics regarding your energy usage,
you only need one tool, really: an electricity
usage monitor that tells you exactly how
many kWh a device or appliance is drawing.

• The monitor can be as simple as a "plug load"

monitor that plugs into an outlet; then you
plug the device/appliance into the monitor.
How to measure
• Electricity is measured in Watts and kilowatts.

Electricity is measured in units of power called

Watts, named to honor James Watt, the
inventor of the steam engine.
• A Watt is the unit of electrical power equal to
one ampere under the pressure of one volt.
• One Watt is a small amount of power.
Formula for power consumption
• What is the formula for power consumption?
• Hence, the energy consumption formula or
the power consumption formula is given as
below: E = P*(t/1000); where E = energy
measured in Joules or in kilowatt-hours (kWh),
P = power units in watts, and t = time over
which the power or energy was consumed.
