Definition
•A rational
function is any function which can be defined by a rational
fraction, in other words, it is a fraction such that both the numerator
and the denominator are polynomials.

Ex:
Domain of definition
•A  rational function is defined when its denominator is different than
zero.

Ex:
is defined for all real numbers except
Reminder:
•To  study the variation of a function is to find:
- Its limit at the boundaries of the domain of definition
- Its derivative
- the solutions of
•Consider
the function and denote by (C) ist representative curve.
1) Find its domain of definition.
2) Calculate the limit at the boundaries of its domain.
3) Deduce the equations of the asymptotes.
4) Find
5) Set up the table of variations.
6) Draw (C).
Solution
•
1) (take highest term/ highest term, simplify then replace) ,
2) is a horizontal asymptote, is a vertical asymptote
3) (no real solution, its sign is always negative)
