- When it comes to meeting new people, most
Americans are nice but not friendly. they only
think of themselves and make communication
templates.
- Americans don't seem to care much when meeting
new people because he is more concerned with
his own business but when it comes to his
business, then they will be nice.
- Americans will be interested when we have a
topic that interests them. otherwise they will just
have a quick conversation.
- when it's not really important they just do a quick
conversation, cause they value their time.
- they will not be long-winded when having
conversations especially with new people, most of
them are straight to the point.

INDONESIANS
- In contrast to Indonesians, when they meet new
people they can immediately get along and
become friends.
- when Indonesians meet new people they are very
friendly and even offer food or drinks. that way
will quickly get to know each other.
- they can immediately conduct deep conversations,
such as discussing personal problems, current
issues, and even joking.
- Indonesians will really respect when meeting new
people and don't even hesitate to directly help
others.

AMERICA
• Americans are typically polite but also private. They have many
acquaintances who they don't consider as friends, but they are
always friendly to each other.
• American really value their time that tied to their privacy and
independence
INDONESIA
• Indonesian people are known for their friendly nature. So, they
can make friends with other people easily. However, the
particular concern is that friendship in Indonesia is very close
than in other countries. Once you are there, it is pleasant and
you will become real friends for each other.

Influence from the strong value of belief as
majority of Muslim, in telephone etiquette,
they will show their relationship by
considering the worship schedule. Their
desire not to call too early in worship is
starting to show good moral to build a social
relations. A person calling at such a time
would be seen as disrespectful, which could
begin bad social relations.
Therefore, they better choose the right time
to call after a minimum of - 1 hour after the
worship time begins.

According to Mauss (1923) in Carrier
(1991) gifts are all useful or unbeneficial
objects or services that are transacted as
part of social activities that are
distinguished from business activities
aimed at building relationships. Gift
aims to strengthen social relations in the
community.

Comparatively speaking, Americans give
gifts on a relatively small number of
occasions and to a relatively small circle of
people. Americans give gifts to relatives and
close friends.
They do not normally give gifts to teachers,
business colleagues, or other people who
might be in a position to grant or withhold
favorable treatment

INDONESIA
In Indonesia, the tradition of giving gifts
has actually existed since time immemorial.
The term that refers to the act of exchanging
an item for another item is included in the
gift giving when viewed from the goal to be
achieved, namely economic turnover.
Interestingly, when barter was still around,
people would be more selective in giving
and getting goods so that the quality could
be maintained properly. If you are used to
giving gifts at Christmas, Indonesia has a

 INDONESIA
- Indonesians usually try to bring gifts when visiting friends. These are small usually don’t have a
significant monetary value.
- Flowers are given on special occasions (i.e. marriages, funerals).
- Gifts should be given and accepted with both hands together or the right hand alone.
- Gifts are not opened immediately upon receiving them.
- The appropriate gift may vary depending on an Indonesian’s ethnicity and religion.
- For Malays and Muslim Indonesians, gifts that have alcohol or pork in them should not be given.
- For strict Muslims, gifts of food must meet halal standards. Many Muslims accept foods without halal
certification as long as it does not contain any pork products (including pork oil/fat).
- Chinese Indonesians may decline receiving a gift two or three times out of politeness before accepting.
Elaborate wrapping (especially in red and gold) is admired and appreciated. Taboo items are sharp objects
(e.g. knives, scissors), clocks, handkerchiefs, umbrellas, green hats, mirrors and yellow or white flowers.
- For Indian or Hindu Indonesians, wrapping should be in bright colours, and leather products and alcohol
should not be given.
