Gurukul education
system
The Gurukul education system was a form of
residential education system where the
students lived in a Gurukul which was the
home of the teacher and served to be the
Centre of education. Students were expected
to learn from their gurus and use their
knowledge in practical life.

TYPES OF STUDENTS IN
GURUKUL SYSTEM

• Vasu- Those obtaining education up to


the age of 24.
•  Rudra- Those obtaining education up
to the age of 36.
•   Aaditya- Those obtaining education
up to the age of 48

Gurukul education system vs Modern system
• They don’t take the fees from shishya. And • Modern system take the fees from
the shishya at the end of year would give student. It doesn’t follow the system of
guru dakshina guru shishya.

system. The respect of student to his/her teacher is more.

• Class rooms will be inside forests, which helps students to keep towards
nature, which keeps them healthy.

• No pressure over students, which helps them to concentrate on concepts


clearly.

• Ancient Gurukul System is much towards practicality rather than theoretical.

DISADVANTAGES OF GURUKUL
SYSTEM
• Children left their homes and near and dear ones at the
tender age of eight and stayed away from their parents
for over 12 years.
• Females are not admitted to the GURUKUL.
• The Guru's words were final and the shishya could not
argue or put across his point to the GURU.
• There was no standard syllabus and conventional
evaluation and examination system.
• They led a sheltered life at Gurukul and could not know
much about the outside world.
