The Hippocratic Text of Aphorism

ABOUT CAUTERIZATION …!

“Firing is a “traditional treatment, usually for leg

injuries, now dying out in the face of claims that it is
cruel. Skin over the flexor tendons, splints, fetlock
and knee joints, ringbone or curbs is burned with
red-hot iron. Penetration varies from superficial to
underlying tissues and causes scar tissue to form,
hardening the area; carried out under general or
local anaesthesia.
(western criteria)
ANCIENT VIEW OF AGNI
 From the dawn of history, man admired fire and its power.
Ancient cultures, especially the Persians, worshipped fire.
 Cautery is called Kaiy in Arabic.
 The prophet Mohammed (PBUH) did not forbid cautery but
discouraged the use of fire for treatment.
 The surgical book, Al-Tasrfi liman ‘ajaza’ an al-ta’lif written by
the Arab Andalusian surgeon, Abul Qasim Al Zahrawi
(Albucasis d. 1013 A.D) recommended cautery.
 The Arab cautery is similar in concept to the Chinese old
therapy of “Moxabustion.
THE ACTUAL CAUTERY

 The treatment of disease by the use of counter –

irritants, such as blistering and scarification, is as old as
medicine and is documented as far back as ancient
Egypt. Cauterization of wounds and ulcers also has a
long tradition.
 The use of cauterization as a counter-irritant in joint
disease appears to be much more recent. According to
Jame Syme (1862) it was introduced in Great Britain
about 1830.
BEST REMEDY AND BEST METAL

 FINAL REMEDY IN CAUTERY

Cautery is the last mode of therapy or cautery is the
final remedy” is an ancient Arab saying or proverb.

 BEST IN GOLD
“A cautery is best made of gold”. Al Zahrawi.
MODERN VIEW ON
PANCHAMAHA BHUTAS
 All chemical changes are accompanied by the
absorption or release of heat. The intimate
connection between matter and energy has been a
source of wonder and speculation from the most
primitive times; it is no accident that fire was
considered one of the four basic elements (along
with earth, air, and water) as early as the fifth
century BC.

WHAT IS HEAT?

 In Physics and thermodynamics, heat is

energy transferred from one body or
thermodynamic system to another due to
thermal contact when the systems are at
different temperatures. It is also often
described as the process of transfer of energy
between physical entities.
DEEP PENETRATING

HEAT
The human body can easily absorb far-infrared heat
because of its deep penetrating abiliinfrared waves
can actually penetrate up to 2-3 inches deep into
muscular tissue and Ligaments.
 When far infrared heat penetrates through the skin
into muscular tissue and ligaments, it energy into
heat energy. The thermal effect within the deep
layers of tissues cause blood dilate which improves
blood circulation and promotes healing and wellness.
